Re: Vehicle identity requests
Please can somebody identify what vehicle this engine layout belongs to?
Many thanks,
Kerry.
Many thanks,
Kerry.
Re: Vehicle identity requests
A second one, is this perhaps some sort of Opel Blitz? It seems to have the curious descending arc moulding on the door, plus an "MH" registration and the letter St So on the side. The attendants are in Luftwaffe uniform.
Thanks,
Kerry.

It is an Opel Blitz but not sure about the custom body. Maybe a mobile canteen or office body of some function.kerryboo wrote:A second one, is this perhaps some sort of Opel Blitz? Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Kerry,
1. About the car. I don't know why but it smells Austrian to me. The engine is air cooled definitely and the fan reminds me those of Steyr 1500A/2000As. This doesn't mean it is Steyr on your picture, but here Bill is the expert.
A pic of captured Steyr 2000A engine, just to illustrate what I mean:
2. About the Blitz. I'm almost positive it is ex-civilian furniture van over Blitz 3-ton low frame bus chassis. The bodywork is most probably by some Benelux coachbuilder, but could be also German.
I also have no idea what this MH number plate could be, as you know there were MR, MN, etc., but not MH.
However, I think the Luftwaffe member couldn't be related with the vehicle. Note the side marking says "St. Sp." (not "So", sorry!), i.e. "Stab Speer", AFAIK a construction unit within Organisation "Todt" under direct command of the Minister of the armaments. So most probably "yours" is a sort of office, for some construction site supervisor(s) maybe.
If judging from the pictures, it looks "Bst. Sp." was more popular marking (means "Baustab Speer", I guess, could be also "Baustelle Speer", I really don't know):
HTH
Cheers!

I wish I has your bravity
I agree it is Tatra but why 93 and not 92? The 93 model, factory design No. V800, is model 92 development for Rumania, and the only difference is that the basic 92 is 6x4 and the 93 is 6x6. I really can't see on that picture is it with front driving axle or not Regretfully the front wheel also isn't visible, so no other recognition poins. (The driving/non-driving axle front wheel hubs apart, the Rumanian 92s and 93s were with 6-hole wheels, the Czech army 92s were with 2-hole wheels)
Full marks to you anyway! It is Tatra, fully confirmed by the engine and the springed front bumper:

Re: Vehicle identity requests
ilfil,
Thanks for the input.
I have rescanned the lettering, it is definitely not StSp, I feel sure it is StSo. There is not enough room under the lettering for the tail of a "p", it could be an "a", but I go with "o". Here is the scan.
Cheers,
Kerry.

The two crew seem to have political Eagles on their left uniform sleeves. Luftwaffe used the Luftwaffe eagle on the breast.kerryboo wrote:ilfil,

There is a symbol cartouche below the right headlamp. Appears to be something within a circle.
Was a MH registration a valid German registration?
