Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
Hi Bert:
The white cammo Federal is most likely a 1938 model.
It is most likely from Finland based on the design of the locally built cabin and the wheels which are different than those supplied on US Federals. For that reason, and also I have not very good references on Federal, I cannot tell you the exact model just now.

Hi,
I usually do not post here, but one of my friends came across this and would like to know the German designation.

I believe this to be a Praga T-9 Artillery Tractor.

Hi Bill,
Thanks a lot, that looks about right. Am I right in my assumption that the carriage is a Churchill tank?

Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
Ses, you are not correct here I'm afraid, the T-9 was made by the Czech firm Praga and had nothing whatsoever to do with the British Churchill tank.

Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
Hi SES:
You Danish folk speak English normally better than we Americans do but I wonder if we have a "translation" problem here.
The vehicle is a Czech Praga T-9, no doubt about that.
If you want the German designation as a beute vehicle, it would be, I guess, Praga T-9 (T), T representing the first letter in the German spelling of Czechoslovakia which I will not even attempt tonight.
I also looked at your photo and manipulated it in my photo editing program to try to determine if you were thinking about the thing the Praga vehicle is apparently towing.
If you let your imagination run wild, you could almost think that the towed "thing" was some sort of AVRE engineering vehicle possibly based on a Churchill chassis but I do not think that is what you were asking.
Please let us know exactly what you were looking for so I can get some sleep tonight.

Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
Thank you for the Opel photo, Kerry, totally new to me.
These sometimes one-off vehicles are very hard to find either in books or on the web.
I have managed to upload about 150 or so images over the years of such one-offs and maybe I should start another thread here just dealing with umbau vehicles as opposed to beute and umbau vehicles.
If the readers of this thread have any ideas about this let me know. I ain't getting any younger and I need to spread some of these types of photos somewhere on enthusiast web sites.
Cheers

Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
Hi Bill,
Excellent idea, not so sure that these unusual Beute Kubels are the "one-offs" you mentioned (that is if you meant it literaly ? ), this Opel Admiral for instance, I can recall, including the above photo, another three, one with the same Kubel body as above and two others with what appears to be grafted on mEpkw bodies (slightly wider), all proper kubels of course.
So if at least four photos exist it would suggest small production quantities, probably from small garages/workshops, maybe something in the order of 50 or 100 modifications, after all the Admiral was a popular and fairly plentiful car.
So press on, a good idea.

Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
Hi Holger,
Thanks, and yes these two of yours are included in my known four examples, the third is a note just above and the fourth is many pages earlier on this thread.
cheers leonard paul
