Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
Hi Kerry:
I do think the ID is a valid one.
To you and all, my apologies for the messed up photo posting.
Due to my eyesight, I have the screen set for large displays which means if I do not remember to scroll up on the screen, I miss any messages that the photo is too large, wrong format or whatever. Normally, I always resize any oversize photos as soon as I download them but as usual nowadays, I was in a hurry. We have two tradesmen here today to fix various household maladies and I just grabbed the second photo and did not realize it was two times too large for this forum.
Anyway, I finally figured it out and just did a few extra posts.
I am still researching some of your older requests for ID and of course eagerly await new ones.

It is an ex-civilian lorry, possibly one of the many requisitioned for the BEF and never came home. It is an Austin cab but might be a K2 or a K4. I cannot tell them apart from a K3 anyhow, what a good find.

Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
Good ID, Clive, I think you are spot on.
Just to chat for a bit, I sympathize with all of those who attempt to ID British vehicles post Dunkirk that eventually found themselves back in German service.
There are some really good tables/lists of vehicles sent to France, including civilian impressed vehicles, but scant and few images of the civilian vehicles. Given that we see all manner of beute British vehicles in use that are obviously not originally military vehicles, it gets pretty confusing. This is made even more difficult when the photos do not always identify the country of use or capture.
I have been confused many times by photos of vehicles captured in the Channel Islands that are not said to be from that area that I may think were captured on the Continent. About the only way to guess is that the Channel Island vehicles usually had no Notek equipment and often even lacked the white painted fenders/mudguards.
In any case, a good job on your part.

Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
Odd thing is the dropside body appears to have been raised up , odd because it was a flat floor body anyway.Clive Mortimore wrote:Hi Chalkychalky wrote:Austin K3 with original dropside British body with a 'house' built on top-

A lot of BEF vehicles were also new civilian type vehicles with the manufacturers body {usually a dropside} straight off the prodution lines as this was the quickest way to procure them.
Posted a lot of BEF vehicle photos on my flickr site here-
