Re: Photothread: Allied Vehicles in German Service
Hi Bert:
Thanks for the additional information, something I did not know before. That would explain the rather few photos.

Hi BertSIS 5 wrote:Hi,
here a pic of a captured American armoured half-track in Northern Africa. I think it is the type M 2, field modification into a AA gun carriage (source of the pic: http://www.vk.com).

It looks like a Gun Motor Carriage T28E1 without its two 0.5inch water cooled Browning machine guns.

Hi Clive,
thank You very much for Your reply. In this case it is a derivative of the type M 3 with a longer hull. Is that right?

Hi Bert
I have no idea which model formed the basis for the T28. All I know it was the forrunner of the M15 and M15A1 Multiple Gun Carriages, these had a different mounting for the 37mm, the M15 had 0.5 air cooled Brownings lower than the 37mm and the M15A1 had them mounted above the 37mm. Both had a shield for the gun crew.

Re: Photothread: Allied Vehicles in German Service
Fantastic find, Markus!!
Looks to be a model 74-78 made from 1934-1936.
Do you know where the photo was taken?
Another possibility would be a model 66 67 from 1931.

Hi Bill,
Norway, I presume. At least an eBay search with the auction N:o produces this text: „HAMMER Album Fotoalbum Technik Flugzeug Norwegen Norge Oslo panzer 193 Fotos“. As for the model maybe LV71 series; c.f. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_LV71 ... k_1934.jpg

Hi Markus:
Yes, a 71 might work as well. Little hard to tell as the original photo seems to have some sort of radiator mask on it.
Actually, the 71 is probably a better choice as I see the headlamp mounting bar is the same as your photo and not present on my two choices. BTW, I could not bring up your album using the ebay no you gave and searching ebay.de, it only gave me similar listings.

Re: Photothread: Allied Vehicles in German Service
A few of the vehicles in the photos have an installation behind the windscreen. On the drivers side, except for the American car.
Does anyone know what they do? And why only a few vehicles have them?Re: Photothread: Allied Vehicles in German Service
Hi Tomg44,
They are electric heaters to keep the windscreen clear of ice.
Kerry.
