Hello Bert,
Here is another 1940 Fargo, with some variation in the cab, doors, bumper and tow-hooks. I suspect all of the differences are down to local assembly on a supplied chassis.
Kerry.

Yes the CS8 is bigger and has many differences . The 8cwts also do not seem as numerous being mainly used as officers runabouts and for radio operators ( pre jeep ) .Maxschnauzer wrote:Thanks, chalky.
I found this photo which is captioned Morris PU 8cwt GS (New Zealand Forces). The vehicle behind it in line has a different body style and larger wheels which I assume is a CS8 as was my original post. If so the difference is quite clear to me now. .

Re: Photothread: Allied Vehicles in German Service
Well, this one has not quite made it into "German Service" yet but it looks in good enough condition that it probably did.

Re: Photothread: Allied Vehicles in German Service
With apologies, I will also stretch the term "German Service" a bit merely as an excuse to post this pic of a beautiful 1.5 Liter MG VA Saloon taken at the port of St. Helier, Jersey with Ft. Regent as a backdrop.
Cheers,
Max

Not a Retriever definitely. Indeed, the pic is of bad quality but Thornycroft Tartar is still recognizable on it.jakszach wrote:Hi all,

Re: Photothread: Allied Vehicles in German Service
The German message on the rear of this photograph translates as: 'A reminder of your dear friend Ernst'. So, is the vehicle in German service, or is this a post-war photograph showing a German civilian driver engaged by the occupying British forces?

Re: Photothread: Allied Vehicles in German Service
John, all those markings look British to me, and some features of the vehicle look late war, so I'd say it's a post war photo with the occupying forces.

Re: Photothread: Allied Vehicles in German Service
Many thanks, Sean. No, I can't see any definite German markings either, so it does look as though it is post-war.

Just to show a different perspective, a wartime photo of the same type of truck.
Note, the blackout light which was standard equipment on such vehicles up to May, 1945.
I agree, post war photo.
