Re: Photothread: Allied Vehicles in German Service
I assumed it was a pre-1930 British truck, but I really don't know much about them. The wheels are inconsistent with British models which AFAIK all used non-spoked wheels even in the late 20s.
Re: Photothread: Allied Vehicles in German Service
Tatra 23? Maybe the road profile straightened the left rear wheel masking the IRS.

Hi all!
Yep, I also think it is Tatra 23.
The same vehicle Marcus posted above, from a book on Tatras:
And another one from the same book:
Both pics dated 1929.

Hi Luftflotte 2,
You are totally right with Your ID. Here another captured British ambulance, a Morris-Commercial CS11/30F (source of the pic: an expired ebay auction).
Regards
Bert

Its a Chevrolet for sure and has an Indian Army Type (Australian) Ambulance body that was also used on the 1500 Series. However the cab is similar to a 1300 series; both were used in the Western Desert

Re: Photothread: Allied Vehicles in German Service
Hi Sturm:
I would make this a 1940 Chevrolet 15 cwt India Army Pattern possibly captured from the Australians in the Western Desert.
I am a bit baffled by the civilian style rear fenders/mudguards but it may have been assembled in Egypt.
Bill

Re: Photothread: Allied Vehicles in German Service
Hi guys!
Definietly Chevy 1940 (probably the model is WA), and most probably Bill is right. Looks like domestic affair.
I think for the rear wheels area the ambulance isn't representative (the same for the wheels in general), on the classic Indian pattern Chevies the wheel arches on those GS bodies have a bit different look:
The iconic view of the Indian pattern GS-bodied Chevrolets, according to Australian War Memorial museum:

Re: Photothread: Allied Vehicles in German Service
I believe that the registration number on these Chevvies is of the Indian Army type, the arrow followed by a number, which would suggest that they weren't in Australian service, which doesn't mean that they weren't of course because I actually don't know what an Australian registration number looked like and they could have been similar.

Re: Photothread: Allied Vehicles in German Service
I realize that we are getting a bit off topic, but I found today buried in my files two more photos of the India Army Pattern ambulance mounted on the Chevrolet chassis with "proper" rear fenders/mudguards. Both said to be Indian Army Pattern but also supplied to other Commonwealth countries. The first is a 1941 model.
Sadly, I cannot yet speak to the registration plate with the arrow observation as an hour of Googling and looking through my own files only seemed to show that this was probably indicating an Indian Army vehicle.
I have not done the research yet, but I think it is also possible that these three photos show a vehicle built on the regular passenger car chassis rather than on the 15 cwt commercial chassis. I will report back when I have done more research.
Bill

Here is a Bren Carrier recovering a Me 109. It looks like the gun shield has been chopped.

A shot from the rear of the very same vehicle was found by chance, enjoy:
Is this wide white strip on the body side a sort of recognition marking? Apparently this pic was shot at some later stage, the strip is missing on the first photo
Cheers!
