Re: Photothread: Vehicles with unit markings
Taken in Athens of an unknown car, does anyone recognise this set of markings?
Many thanks,
Kerry.

Re: Photothread: Vehicles with unit markings
I would think a variation of the staff car flag, but I have not seen it before.Maxschnauzer wrote:What is the pennant on this Adler Type 10?
The filled flag is for battalion HQ and the symbol next to it is from the 2nd Panzer Division. Not sure about the arrow.kerryboo wrote:Taken in Athens of an unknown car, does anyone recognise this set of markings?

Re: Photothread: Vehicles with unit markings
Hi Kerry:
Your Athens convertible is either a 1938 Ford Deluxe or a 1939 Ford Standard. Almost impossible to tell the year from the rear.

Luftflotte and Bill,
Thanks once again, and, interestingly, the same cropped photo contained this which, Bill, I believe is also a Ford. Nice camo job too,
Kerry.

Hi Kerry:
Your last Ford convertible is a 1936 model which you can tell by the pressed steel wheels. The 1935 was visually very similar but still had wire wheels.

Re: Photothread: Vehicles with unit markings
Hi Kerry,
The characters are clearly part; 2. Pz.Division
and a battalion HQ. The "arrow" is not now known.
My feeling tells me that it to the Reconnaissance Battalion 5
belongs.

Re: Photothread: Vehicles with unit markings
They are newly acquired vehicles. Would the camouflage be British? The period would be autumn 1941.kerryboo wrote:Luftflotte and Bill,

Re: Photothread: Vehicles with unit markings
Nebelwerfer symbol (to the right of battalion symbol) = Think Mercedes star without the circle.
However, upon closer examination, augustdieter is correct. And, anyway, the three-point star should part of and at the bottom of the battalion staff, not next to it. My mistake.

Leo, is that not the 2 PD sign, an upside down Y with a I to its right ?
