Re: Photothread: Vehicles with unit markings
Is this shot up ambulance of the 4. Gebirgs Division or something else entirely?
Cheers,

Re: Photothread: Vehicles with unit markings
Max, the sign was used by both 1st and 6th Gebirgs Divisions, 4th had a completely different sign so the 4 isn't connected to the divisional number, perhaps just a vehicle number.

Re: Photothread: Vehicles with unit markings
Thanks very much, Alan. My notes indicate that this pic was supposedly taken in Russia, so would it be correct to assume that it is most likely 1st?
Cheers,
Max

Max, if it is in Russia then it can only be 1st I guess.

Very interesting photo: trailer of the Army's 536th Motorized Bakery Company with a buzzsaw (circular rotating saw) for cutting wood (see also cut logs in back). I think that's the number above the bakery symbol. Even has the type of bakery, namely: "e".
This company was created on 29.07.42, and was sent to the 1st Panzerarmee (Hgr. Süd/A) on the East Front.
I don't have the earlier KStN, but the KStN 1277 for 1943 and 1944 unfortunately do not list these trailers. It is either a KAN item (i.e. the equipment list which doesn't seem likely), or was eliminated in the later versions.
Cheers
Leo

Re: Photothread: Vehicles with unit markings
Hello Leo. It is difficult to tell but to me it looks like 556 instead. Does this give any clues to what unit uses the swan?

Re: Photothread: Vehicles with unit markings
Correction: 536th was raised 29.04.42.
The 556th Mot Bakery Co was raised sometime between May and November 1940. By mid-1941 it was under the 4th Army (AG Center), and by mid-1942 it was with the 2nd Army, (AG South). I do not have any indication of subordination after this date. The sand color of the trailer would indicate that the picture was taken after October 1942.

This photo supposedly the end of the war, Germany. Wrecked self-propelled guns belonged to the same unit. They all have the same markings - a large white swastika and the big white digits. What kind of military unit and shgde could it be?
