Here a wreck of an DAF M39 with the turret lying next to it. The location is a coastal region in Holland. From ebay.

That's "Derfflinger". A name closely related to the name "Seydlitz" (WW1 Warships). So I would bet that both AC's belonged to the same unit.

According to a recent publication on DAF at least 5 of these armoured cars were refitted at Eindhoven with radioinstallations in 1941. The first picture on this thread must have been from this period as well.
So at least 5 of these cars were in Holland at the time. It apeears there are surprsingly many pics of these scarce vehicles. Only 12 made and some destroyed in 1940...

Thanks for the info ,so it's a verry rare picture, and the only picture that shows the aerials mounted on the DAF.

Also:

Whe're just lucky to find them on E-bay ,and also take the effort to share it with other people, there could be more of them but we never know that for sure until they are posted .

It's also my believe that "Information not shared is lost" in my case not information but pictures.

After seeing all the picture in this topic you could get the idee that there where more then 12 .

Best regards

Sander

A very good effort you do Sander!

I was wondering if we could reconstruct the history of the remaining cars after 1940-45.
Like which cars served in which units where?

Some went south to Belgium and France in 1940. Were these the same cars that were in Holland in 41 to be refitted? And were these the same that served in Russia? What about the ones with mgs only, just a later refit after munition for the Bofors 37mm ran out?

Cheers,
Nuyt

Some more info from here:
http://www.grebbeberg.nl/forum/forum.ph ... p=1&view=3

In May 1940 there were 12 DAF m39s, two yet not fitted with guns!
Three may have been damaged/destroyed by the Dutch.
Four served with AA227.
Six may have been sent to Russia.
They may have been exited from service by 42 for lack of spares aetc.

Hi nuyt

I can’t say where the rest of these vehicles (also the one with aerials )went to, or where the 4 of the AA227 ended up.
Do you know how long the AA227 used the 4 M39 ???.

Looking at destroyed picture of m39 you could say for sure that there where some in Russia.

I think we just have to wait for more picture to show up ,and hope that can’t tell us a little bit more.

Werner Regenberger said in his book Armoured vehicles and units of the german police 1936-45 .
Police battalion 41 was assigned to the Netherlands by order of the Reichsfuhrer-chef on jun 3 1940.
The battalion was assigned 2 armored car platoons.Nothing is known of the platoons’stenght or equipment’.In november 1940 police battalion 41 was stationed in amsterdam.

By Order of the Reichsfuhrer-chef on 16 December 1940 .The armoured car platoons stationed in Amsterdam became part of the 4th company of the police battalion 254.
Police battalion 254 hade there home barracks in koeningsbergen

In may 1942 police battalion 68 conducted a training course for crew of armoured cars from the Netherlands .
A training certificate has been found certifying the training as a driver for an armoured vehicle designated “Netherlands krupp armoured car”,this indicates that this armoured scout car at that time was stationed in The Hague ,
Since 15 men were certainly not trained as driver for a single armoured car.there must have been other armoured vehicles from Holland on the hand with the police Battalion 68 .
There is a picture of m36's on a ordnungspolizei parade on 10 february 1941 in holland this could be Police battalion 41.
It could be plausible that some of the m39 saw service in police Battalion 68,but that’s just a guess.
Also one thing won’t fit, on all the picture of beute m39 you can’t find a police emblem .

Regards

Sander
