Soviet war diaries online: "pamyat-naroda.ru"

Beta-version of the site with digitized war diaries of various level Sov.Army units. Navigation in Russian only. At the present time the site works with frequent delays due to many requests.

Hi Art,

a question: I can't find original signatures of the documents available on "pamyat-naroda"; are they "hidden" somewhere on the site, or must one try alternative ways of citing the documents properly?

Thanks,

G.

What do you mean exactly? You can't find certain pages from a document?

Hi art,

I assume that most (if not all) the documents come from TsAMO, but I can't find the archival signatures on the website itself. For instance,

http://pamyat-naroda.ru/jbd/130269179/

holds the war diary of the 73rd GD, but I can't see the appropriate fond-opis-delo classification.

Cheers,

G.

Ok. Copy the link to the image. For example, for the first page of the 73 GRD war diary it would be:
http://cdn.pamyat-naroda.ru/images/Пере ... 000004.jpg
This link contains a numerical series namely 1212-00001-0045 which stands for fond 1212, opis' 1, delo 45. The same rule for other documents, from what I can see. Actually in this particular folder archival attributes are shown on the folder cover:

Catalog of online war diaries (in Russian):
http://vif2ne.ru/nvk/forum/files/Apple1 ... atalog.txt
The file contains a collection of 9-digit identification numbers which can be used to access the needed war diary via the page address
https://pamyat-naroda.ru/jbd/*********/
where ********* is the said id number.

Hi art,

simple click on the first link results in "403 Forbidden", and copy-paste results in "Файл не найден на сервере", even when "_catalog.txt" part is included.

Cheers,

Curious, I downloaded it just now without problem. Try to download an archive file from the attachment.
(150612205848)_catalog.pdf
(115.8 KiB) Downloaded 157 times
Change the file extension to .rar before opening.

Thanks for the listing Art. It is nice to see the 1943 and 1944 material. Is there any chance of a complete listing of units? I have conducted some searches of the site and there is material down to regimental and battalion level.

The text file was fine but I couldn't open the PDF file you posted.

It's not a pdf file, it's a rar archive actually. Since the forum engine doesn't allow to attach this type of files, I've changed the file extension to .rar manually. Change it back to .rar if you want to open it.
Also small hint: some probably have noticed that a number of war diaries are presented in a shortened form: several ending pages are frequently missing in the pages window. Also maps and appendices to the diary are not shown either even when they are in the same folder. The only way I found to circumvent this bug is to copy a link to a page and change the page number. For example, the link above
http://cdn.pamyat-naroda.ru/images/Пере ... 000004.jpg
is modified as
http://cdn.pamyat-naroda.ru/images/Пере ... 000005.jpg
and now links to the next page. And so on and so forth until the end of the folder. Tiresome somewhat but I don't see a better way of browsing through full folders. The same method works for non-war-diary folders. Unfortunately developers didn't provide an appropriate a simple method of navigation through their stuff, the absence normal catalog included.
Is there any chance of a complete listing of units?
Not a question addressed to me. As far as I understand the file linked above lists all war diaries uploaded by the present moment. The list is obviously not complete, I don't see anything from Don/Central Front for example. Hopefully the missing diaries will be uploaded later. Also there are many folders other than war diaries, they look rather unsystematic and I don't understand the principle why they were picked. Probably because the uploading is not complete again. I believe someone will make a convenient catalog eventually, one can only wonder why developers themselves din't do that simple thing.

I made a catalogue of Pamyat-naroda records. It's not complete, but I'm sure it contains about 99% records published now.
right now the site itself is inoperabe, because its owners reinforce its protection
