Does anyone know for what exploits was Hans-Joachim Valet awarded the Ritterkreuz, being a Transportflieger?

For 430 successful sorties as a Ju 52-Pilot in Africa and Russia, for example Demyansk (59 sorties-the highest of all transport-pilots), El-Alamein, Tunis, Cherkassy,Crimea.
