Really, I do not understand the differences between the last two abbreviations, and the first well known KIA.
Could you help me ? Thank you.

KIA- Killed in Action.

KAS- Killed in Active Service. ( ? )

DAS- Dead in Active Service. ( ? )

Killed in active service means that you have been killed by a non-combat action, such as a road accident or banged your head, but were not in combat or under attack, but you were in military service. Died in active service means that you died of wounds or illness whilst serving in the military.

it also had implications for civilians serving the military and for families claiming pensions. Foreign service could mean a higher award.
