It's a shame that no book covers the 'Battle of the Reich' as well as books do regarding the British in the 'Battle Of Britain'.

Oh there are books that detail various JG histories, or famous raids, or even broad brush histories. But none seem to have captured the fine balance between aerial actions, life on the ground (amongst the pilots), and the wear and tear on men and machines as do several outstanding BoB books.

It really is a void.

Speaking of the entire war, there are loads of German histories of the air war over a particular region or city, but the only one that I know of that covers the entire Reich is not very good due to its unfortunate styling which is dictated by the immense area and time span covered. For the more limited 1939-40 period, the periodic RAF night raids with a handful of bombers didn't compare to the fury of the B of B and probably wouldn't make for much of a book from the German point of view.

Hello to all ; Thank you very much again Bruce7506. Now another history .........................

The Jagdgeschwader 1 in air combat of the German Bight.

On December 18, 1939 shortly after noon, the Leutnant der Luftnachrichtentruppe Hermann Diehl was called by the Funkgefreiter operator of the Funkmeßgerät (Radar) type "Freya" located on the island of Wangerooge, having found a large echo in the device's screen .

After confirming the information, the Leutnant phoned to CP of the JG 1 (Oberstleutnant Carl Schumacher) in Jever / Ostfriesland but failed to convince the Kommodore, who did not believe that the British could attack in a day so clear

The Fighter Forces (Jäger waffe) in the area had been reorganized in the meantime and on November 12, 1939 Maj. Carl Schumacher former Gruppenkommandeur of the II. / JG 77 was promoted to Oberstleutnant and received the command of a newly created wing, it was the JG 1.
