Books by Me 110 pilots?

Postby Miles on 08 Jun 2012 17:25

Does anybody know of any books written by former Me 110 pilots? The vast, vast majority of the books are written by guys who flew either the 109 or the 190. I do have Rudel's book, and Häberlin's, but what I'm looking for is a memior by a 110 pilot. So far I haven't had any luck finding one. In fact, aside from the two guys I just mentioned, it's rare, at least in my experience, to find any Luftwaffe memiors written by bomber or dive-bomber pilots either. So feel free to weigh in on those if you have any info.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Two excellent biographies of Bf 110 (please: use Bf and not Me) pilots, but at this time only in german language available:
- "Nächte im Bomberstrom", PAUL ZORNER (Nightfighter)
- "Sand und Feuer", MARTIN DREWES (Zerstörer and nightfighter).

Both decorated with Knights Cross with Oakleaves, and both still alive.

Another biographie, written some decades ago: "Duell unter den Sternen", WILHELM JOHNEN (Nightfighter, KC holder).

Thank you, Joerg! I am trying to broaden my library and it is difficult; bomber, dive-bomber and Zerstoerer memiors seem to be very rare, at least in English. I knew there would be more information in German but I didn't know where to begin my search. It is really the Zerstoerers that I am interested in at the moment.

Here's another:

Ludwig von Eimannsberger-Zerstörer Gruppe : A History of V.(Z)/LG 1 – I./NJG 3, 1939-1941.

I just posted another one for you but the site's software wouldn't accept it.

Peter Spoden springs to mind:

His book "Enemy in the Dark" is excellent and available in several languages.

Duel Under the Stars by Wilhelm Johnen is another great book, and the perfect companion to Peter Spodens book.

Ludwig was not a pilot. His uncle, Hptm. Horst Liensberger was the Gruppenkommandeur of V.(Z)/LG 1.

If one is to quote books written by non-pilots, there are many...

Almost forgot, lots of first person descriptions from five nachtjager and some superb unpublished photos in Richard P. Williams book Hunters of the Reich - Night Fighters.
