The R.S.I. switched its production of fighter planes to Bf-109, I think that happened in 1944.

Best Regards,

Mait.

Just hold a mo - did the R.S.I. ever manage to PRODUCE a single
Me-109?
Not plan to produce..planning was the essence of the RSI.They planned
to win WW2 and reconquer Africa - I'm still planning along the same
lines - and 've got about even chances with the RSI.....

I agree with Varjag, that the RSI only got to the planning stage and I can find no listing of either Assembly plants or Component plants outside Greater Germany and certainly none in Italy.

Tibor Tobak WWII Hungarian pilot remember, they (Puma fighter squadron) used Messerschmitt 109 G14 with Italian motors. The plains they got from Wiener Neustadt (Austria).

If I remember correctly I read from some Jane magazine or book that in 1944 the Italian air industry switched the production to Bf-109 models (I think it had something to do with air-raids on factories). I can´t remember the exact source, i will try to find it. It is possible that these planes were produced in Italian factories under german control for the germans mainly.

Anyway, Italy did produce DB-600 series motors that were used in Bf-109 planes (Fiat and Alfa-Romeo factories). So theoretically these could have been exported in small quantities.

Best Regards,

Mait.

Sorry... couldn´t find the book :(
(Sometimes when we lost contact with old friends we loose some books with too). But You could try the question in Comando Supremo forum (http://www.comandosupremo.com/index.html - then click forum). There are some guys really well informed about Italian war history.

Best Regards,

Mait.

The Regia Aeronautica used Bf 109s in combat from 1942-1943, and when Italy surrendered to the Allies in September 1943, the Bf 109s that had served the Regia Aeronautica fell under purview of the National Republican Air Force, the air force of the pro-Nazi Italian Social Republic puppet state in northern Italy from 1944-1945 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messersch ... with_Italy).
