Transportgeschwader 2 April - May 1945

Hello,

I am looking for any information about I. Gruppe Transportgeschwader 2 during April - May 1945. According to unconfirmed Information this unit should be almost destroyed on ground on April 16 1945 by fighters of USAF 4th and 339th FG, 8th AF. Only one information speaks that I./TG 2 should be stationed from April 14 1945 at Praha-Čakovice Airfield (Prag-Tschakowitz). I have evidence about 3 Ju 52s escaped from one (not known) Prague Airfields to field airfield nearby village Nehvizdy (15 miles East of Prague) on April 17 1945. On April 18 1945 all three Ju 52s were destroyed during attack carried by two pilots of 396th FS 368th FG. I suppose Ju 52s belonged to I/TG 2 but have not got any confirmation.

Does somebody know anything about I./TG 2 in April/May 1945? Could soembody confirm that I./TG 2 was stationed at Praha-Čakovice Airfield?

Thank you very much for reply.

Hmmm...............

I./TG 2
- - - - - - - - - - - -
19 Aug 44: at Mainz-Finthen. (BNA HW 5 ULTRA intercept.)
4 Sep 44: ordered disbanded this date by OKL. (G.Tessin-Verbände und Truppen der Deutschen Wehrmacht und Waffen-SS 1939-1945 - Teil 14: Die Luftstreitkräfte.)

In 50+ years of Luftwaffe research, I have never seen a reference to I./TG 2 after the 4 September 1944 date. However, although the unit was deactivated, it is possible that some of its inactive aircraft were parked on Prague airfields and the satellite landing grounds of those airfields. Another possibility is that some of the aircraft originally with this Gruppe were given to other units without first removing the Verbandskenzeichen. If you have solid documented information showing that I./TG 2 was not deactivated on 4 Sep 44 or that it was later reactivated, then I am ready to listen and learn.

L. :)
