Hello,

another nephew of Hermann Göring KIA was Peter Göring. Irving (1989, p.493, 498) mentions he was killed as a fighter pilot in France in autumn 1941.

I think this is his entry in http://www.volksbund.de
Nachname: Göring
Vorname: Peter
Dienstgrad: Leutnant
Geburtsdatum: 14.04.1922
Geburtsort: Weißenfels
Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 13.10.1941
Todes-/Vermisstenort: Hubersent

Peter Göring ruht auf der Kriegsgräberstätte in Bourdon (Frankreich) .
Endgrablage: Block 32 Reihe 8 Grab 309
According to an entry in http://www.cieldegloire.com/jg_026a.php Lt. Peter Göring belonged to the HQ staff of Jagdgeschwader 26 and shot down a Blenheim bomber on the afternoon of Oct. 13th, 1941 at Samer-Hubersent.

He was the son Hermann Göring's brother Karl Ernst and Ilse Göring. Ilse was also the step-niece of Hermann, daughter of his step-sister Frieda.

Best regards
Torsten

Hello,

I hope the following genealogical information on Hermann Göring will be of general interest. Before starting to search I thought this was be an easy, well-researched subject and a look into a few Göring biographies would be sufficient. But as it seems it isn't.

In the German version of Wikipedia (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermann_G%C3%B6ring) the information on Hermann Göring's family is incomplete, in the English version (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermann_G%C3%B6ring) it's pitifully wrong. :(

The best information on the Göring clan I could find is in Müller et al. (2009, p.275):

is totally bogus.)

Further info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_G%C3%B6ring

The list of grandchildren to Heinrich Göring is presumably incomplete. I've seen mention of two other sons of Karl Ernst and Ilse Göring: Heinz and Ernst. Where to place Hans-Joachim Göring (see http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 42#p505442) I don't know yet.

Hello Dieter,

many thanks for your kind response.

I think I may have found the source of the story that a brother of Hermann Göring emigrated to the US. Actually it was Hermann's cousin Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Göring. Here's a photo of him as a quarry worker in Cadiz, Ohio in either 1931 or 1935 .(The caption isn't totally clear about the date).

Hello,

found another nephew of Hermann Göring: Klaus Rigele, son of Fritz Rigele and Olga Göring. He's only mentioned in passing by Lange (1950, p.92) who spells the name 'Claus', and by Knopf & Martens (1999, pp.58) who misname him as 'Klaus Göring'. German TV "historian" Guido Knopp also seems to have done some interviews with him (Knopp, 2006, p.120, 148).

The author of the previously cited booklet found the photo of Heinz Göring in Panzer uniform in a Berlin flea market. The back of the photo is inscribed: “In memory of my dear, dear Heinz. Fallen on 29.7.44 near Pogorzel, east of Warsaw. Taken during his last leave in Jan/Feb 44 in Oeyenhausen.” This photograph led the author on his quest to identify the soldier, which, much to his surprise, turned out to be the Reichsmarschall's nephew!

Time to bring this thread back to life!

I was searching for info on Flak Regt 9 in which Heinz Göring served, when I discovered this post. This is very interesting for me as I am researching the history of the Flak Kaserne in Münster in which I/Flak Regt 9 was located and where Göring served. The Kaserne is today a British Army barracks still in use and over the years there have been several stories that Hermann Göring visited and that the barracks was later named after uncle Hermann. Initially I thought this was a tall story (there are many about the various barracks we had/have) but when I read that his nephew served there in 1936-37 I am now treating these stories with more credence. I speculate that this may be the linkage to the belief that Flak Kaserne was named as Göring Kaserne. Perhaps after the death of Heinz in 1944 the Wehrmacht named his old barracks as such in his honour, but I have yet to find any reference to the barracks being named as such.

Might there be any reference to the barracks in Münster-Gievenbeck in the Paul Anderson booklet? Could I maybe ask for a scan of any relevant pages from it? Pictures of the barracks would be a huge bonus. Any help you could give me would be gratefully recieved.

Re: Hermann Göring's Full List of Orders and Decorations

One decoration is missing, the "Abzeichen der Georgischen Legion" / "Abzeichen der Königin Thamar"/ "Orden der Königin Thamar". Photografic evidence on http://www.ordenskunde.info/dtThamar.htm

The photo is from 1933, cited in a auction catalogue (4847 GROßFOTO MINISTER GÖRING, Kniestück in NSFK-Uniform m. Orden, u.a. georg. Tamara-Orden, 28x17 cm, um 1933, Berliner Auktionshaus für Geschichte).

The site http://www.antique-photos.com/en/awards ... amara.html describes the awards post 1921, which was done form Georgians in exile based in Germany. It is more recent and detailed than the above site on that period.

One can speculate that the Georgians in exile granted the abzeichen/order to Göring as a rising political star, as WWI flying ace and MP from 1928, or in his role as Speaker of the Parliament from 1932, or as Minister of the Interior from 1933, in order to secure his support for a free Georgia. Since Göring did not operate on the East front durin WWI, it is not likely to have been granted before 1921.

This should include Hans-Joachim Göring and Dr.jur. Heinz Göring. The fifth nephew is Walter Göring. He too became a fighter pilot and crashed fatally between Rouen and Le Havre while on a transfer flight, shortly after being posted to the HQ section of I. /Jagd-Geschwader 2. Walter was a son of Dr.med. Heinrich Göring from Wiesbaden (Knoll, 2007) and is buried in the grave next to that of Peter Göring.

Hello,

I was lucky last week and found a genealogical web site shedding some light on Hermann's stepbrother Dr.med. Heinrich Göring and his family. He had not less than seven children with his first wife Dora Barth (http://gedbas.genealogy.net/person/show/1152448690).

Heinrich Carl Göring
* Devant les Ponts (near Metz) Apr. 17th, 1879
+ ??? (after August 1947)
http://magazin.spiegel.de/EpubDelivery/ ... f/41124156
http://leiden.courant.nu/issue/LD/1947- ... n/0/page/1 (notice in 'Met een enkel word - BUITENLAND')

oo (1.)
Theodora 'Dora' Anna Auguste Barth
* Berlin Feb. 15th, 1881
+ ???

Children:

Heinrich Heinz Theodor Göring
* Wiesbaden Sept. 4th, 1907
+ near Pogorzel (east of Warsaw, Poland) July 29th, 1944 (KIA)
assault gun officer (See http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 91#p446691 and http://ww2.dk/Lw%20Offz%20-%20G-K%20-%20Apr%202014.pdf, p.48)

Friedrich 'Fritz' Carl Göring [sometimes also Friedrich Karl Göring]
* Wiesbaden Sept. 27th, 1908
+ (1992 ?)
reconnaissance pilot, later staff positions (See http://ww2.dk/Lw%20Offz%20-%20G-K%20-%20Apr%202014.pdf, p.48)

Irving (1989, p.171) says Friedrich Karl failed the initial examination for officer candidates but is rather vague about the date, it appears to have been in the mid-1930s. Flik (1988, pp.89) mentions a similar case of a Göring nephew he'd judged inappropriate and the personal details he provides point to Karl Friedrich too. But Flik says this happened in 1942. It's difficult to get both cases under one hat unless we assume Fritz Göring changed from reserve officer to active officer in that year. Anyone who knows more about this case (or cases)?

In April/May 1945 Fritz served as administrator of Hermann Göring's estate in Berchtesgaden which he handed over to the US forces without any resistance (http://archives.chicagotribune.com/1945 ... ers-chalet).

Doris Ida Elfriede Göring
* Wiesbaden Mar 19th, 1910
+ ???
oo Alois Haase

Hans Joachim Göring
* Wiesbaden Aug. 19th. 1911
+ near Verne Citadel (Isle of Portland, UK) July 11th, 1940 (KIA)
fighter pilot (See http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 42#p505442 and http://ww2.dk/Lw%20Offz%20-%20G-K%20-%20Apr%202014.pdf, p.48)

Albrecht 'Addi' Jürgen Göring
* Wiesbaden Jan. 16th, 1916 (falsely Nov. 10th, 1916, for correct date see findagrave and de Zheng & Stankey, 2014, p.48)
+ Apr. 30th, 1985
dive bomber pilot already in the Spanish Civil War, since 1940 staff positions. After WW II real estate salesman in Wiesbaden (Arnold, 2012, p.54). (See also http://ww2.dk/Lw%20Offz%20-%20G-K%20-%20Apr%202014.pdf, p.48)

Walter Otto Hermann Göring
* Wiesbaden Jan. 18th, 1921
+ Triqueville / Pont-Audemer (France) June 23rd, 1942 (KIA)
fighter pilot (See http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 0#p1930590)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

oo (2.)
Edith Zambona
* Hildesheim Aug. 17th, 1898
+ ???

Ironically Heinrich's second marriage to Edith Zambona made Hermann Göring a relative of renowned pacifist writer Erich Maria Remarque, author of 'Im Westen nichts Neues' (aka 'All Quiet on the Western Front') (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erich_Maria_Remarque). Remarque was married with Ilse Jutta Zambona, a younger sister of Edith. In 1935 Göring actually sent his Mr. Fix-it Paul 'Pilli' Körner to visit Remarque in Switzerland and offer him a return to Germany. Remarque declined though (Arnold, 2001, p.83). The marriage of Heinrich and Edith must have broken up sometime after that because by 1938 Edith already was the wife of one Mr. Schleuss in Davos (Switzerland) (Rörig, 2006, p.93).

Hello,

let's continue a bit with Hermann's relatives, today the family of his step-sister Frieda:

Friederike Wilhelmine Frieda Clara Göring
* July 16th, 1875 in Metz (Lorraine)
+ Oct. 9th, 1929 in Kiel (Schleswig-Holstein)
oo
Korvettenkapitän a.D. Otto Friedrich Burchard
* Sept. 6th, 1865 in Rostock (Mecklenburg)
+ Jan. 10th, 1904 in Kiel (Schleswig-Holstein)

Otto Burchard served a good deal of his military career in the South Pacific. Unfortunately he contracted a tropical desease there that led to him being retired early in 1900 as well as to his death only four years later (N.N., 1905, p.56).

The couple had four daughters:

Ida Maria Burchard
* May 16th, 1897 in Kiel
+ ???
oo Dr.iur. Walter Molly
* July 15th, 1888 in Altenkirchen (Westerwald)
+ March 6th, 1956

Walter Molly was a german career diplomat who was (among numerous other offices) consul in Lodz (Poland) 1932 - 1934 and from 1937 until Jan. 1942 consul general in Sao Paulo (Brazil). For a detailed synopsis of his life see Keipert & Grupp (2000, pp.280).

The Molly couple had two children:

Gudula Molly
* Nov. 11th, 1920 in ???
+ ??? in ???

Klaus Molly
* Dec. 14th, 1924 in Constantinople (Turkey)
+ Jan. 08th, 1945 (http://www.volksbund.de/home.html) or Febr. 19th, 2012 (http://www.haz-trauer.de/traueranzeige/ ... y/14674839). Obviously there's somebody else in the grave of Klaus Molly in Lommel (Belgium), presumably a case still listed as MIA.

-------------------------------------------

Ilse Johanna Luise Katharina Ada Burchard
* Apr. 28th 1898 in Kiel
+ ??? in ???
oo (1.) Karl Ernst Göring
oo (2.) Rudolf Diels

She and her three sons have already been treated here http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 7&t=162278 and here http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 0#p1930590 to some extent.

-------------------------------------------

Elfriede Gertrud Clara Maria Burchard
* Aug. 3rd, 1900 in Kiel
+ 1975 in Caracas, Venezuela
oo 1935 (Otto?) Soulavy
* 1905 in Hungary
+ 1960 in Maracaibo, Venezuela

I've found very little about her but like her younger sister her trail leads to Venezuela. One genealogical site says she married one Otto Soulavy from Hungary in 1935. But in a 1930s list of presents for Hermann Göring they're listed amongst other donors as Karli and Elfriede Soulavy. When they were naturalized in Venezuela in 1955 (http://www.pgr.gob.ve/dmdocuments/1955/24871.pdf, p.4) their names were recorded as 'Karl E. Soulavy Horat' and 'Elfriede Burchard de Soulavy'. It seems her husband went at various times as Otto, Ottokar, Karl E., Karli or Carlos Soulavy. There was a Karl E. Soulavy who was a senior engineer and leading manager in the Manfred Weiss Steel & Metal Works, Hungary's most important armaments producer in WW II. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this is the same chap. Göring with his extended interest in war economics would have been only too pleased to install one of his relatives there in a key position.

The couple had three children but little has been published about them.

-------------------------------------------

Erika Gertrud Elisabeth Burchard
* Oct. 18th, 1901 in Kiel
+ 1958 in San Cristóbal, Táchira [State], Venezuela
oo
Walt(h)er Rode (Boué)
* Oct. 29th, 1890 in San Cristóbal, Táchira, Venezuela
+ 1980 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

In 1921 Erika married Walter Rode, the son of merchant Heinrich Rode from Hamburg who'd come to Venezuela as a clerk in 1880. After a decade of successful business deals Heinrich Rode became a partner in the trading house of Van Dissel, Rode & Co. in Maracaibo that specialized in coffee trade, also owning a number of coffee haciendas in the Andes region of Venezula (Rode, 1993).

Until shortly before WW II Walter and Erika Rode resided on the coffee hacienda 'La Granja' in Rubio (Tachira State) (Chardón, 1934, p.48) but then decided to return to Germany. They sold it in a complicated barter deal to the Jewish Bernheimer family that tried to emigrate from Germany. The Bernheimers were rich arts and antiques dealers in Munich and Hermann Göring took the opportunity to squeeze as much money out of them as possible for himself (and his family). Details of the deal can be found in Förster (1996, pp.243). For Göring the cherry on top was obviously that he could oblige the Bernheimers to take with them Jewish actor Martin Hartwig (i.e. Martin Hirsch) and his wife Gertrud Burchard (an aunt of the Burchard girls) and pay for their stay in South America (Förster, 1996, p.244; Trapp et al., 1999, p.380).

In 1940 the Rodes bought a large farm called Julianenhof near Buckow, about 50 kilometers east of Berlin. Emmy Göring seems to have visited them there several times with Edda. In April 1945 they fled the advancing Soviet forces.
(http://arbeitsstelle-provenienzforschun ... ulianenhof)

Later they settled in Venezuela again where Walter Rode still owned at least the coffee hacienda 'Monte Bello' in Santa Ana del Tachira (Cavaletto, 1961, p.13).

The Rode couple had three children too but they all seem to prefer their privacy.

Hello,

the wedding of Elfriede Burchard and Karl Soulavy seems to have been on April 19th, 1936. There's a photo from the wedding party at Carinhall (http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/89714610/) in one of Hermann Göring's photo albums that's in the posession of the Library of Congress.

Best regards
Torsten

Unknown Pin worn by Hermann Göring

This is probably a long shot but does anyone recognise this pin Göring is wearing?

Is it some sort of HJ Badge? I have no record of him receiving anything like this.

This photo was taken on his 45th birthday, January 1938.

Many thanks
Pierce

The badge shown does resemble HJ. But why would have Göring been awarded it? Any further information on this?

Would the Honour Badge with Oak-leaves not have been bigger than this?

For example, here is Himmler wearing the HJ Golden Honour Badge (possibly not even with oak-leaves?)...compare the size of his HJ Badge to that of the Pilot & Observer Badge with Diamonds he is wearing and compare the same with the Göring photo above. I believe Göring's badge is much smaller.
