Hallo Edward,

yes, he is the brother of the WB Niederlande, Friedrich Christiansen.

In June 1940 Carl served as Fregattenkaptiän der Reserve zur Verfügung (d. R. z.V.) in the Staff of his brother in the Netherlands.

From 09.1942 until the end of WW II Carl was Generaispekteur beim Reichskommissar für die Seeschiffart (Gauleiter Karl Kaufmann).

So He's The Same One!

Dear Sir,

I remember reading about Carl Christiansen's attempt to run the blockade with his ship to supply Von Lettow-Vorbeck's troops in East Africa which ended in disaster. So Carl was same one who was awarded the Knight's Cross to the War Cross with Swords during World War II. I'm surprised! :o I also didn't know that his middle name was Friedrich. I thought it was a typo error because his older brother already had a name called Friedrich as his first name. :?

Did somebody know when Carl Cristiansen was awarded with the German Cross in Silber ?

When he was promototed to Fregattankapitän ? The German Cross in Silber was awarded to him as Korvettenkapitän.

Thierry,
I really can't imagine that all our members know the meaning of "OFA 1". Therefore I would ask yet to reveal your superior knowledge and to name the complete german original name of the award to avoid frustating misapprehensions and misinterpretations.
Thank you for understanding.
