Adalberto, the dates for the assignment of G.O.C. XXXIV. Army Corps should read;
•20 Aug 1939 - 24 Dec 1941

My source is;
Behelfsmassige Kriegsrangliste des Stabes Hoh. Kdo. z.v.b. XXXIV
NARA Microfilm T314, RG 242, Roll 848.

I can email the document to you if you wish.
All the best
Robert

Hallo Adalberto,

I' m interested to know when you want to publish your "Generale des Heers of the german Wehrmacht" in Brazil.
Obviously you have the dates and informations "A - L" by Biblio-Verlag and Gareth Collins.
Unfortunately you miss the dates "M - Z" and you are searching for in our forum, isn' t it so, I have a faint suspicion.
Will we become full credit for our assistance ??
For example:
Author: Adalberto Lorde Dath Vader et alieni
or
alieni and adalberto :P :idea: 8-) :|

Friendly I want to demand an explanation please !?

Best regards

According to the 1940 DAL, Metz was an active officer "für die Kriegsdauer" on 01.05.1940 (the only other cases, all marked with an asterisk, were Rundstedt, Leeb, Volkmann and Cochenhausen). He is listed as an active GL with RDA from 01.03.1940 (8). So it seems he must have been activated at some point between 26.08.1939 and 01.05.1940. Cochenhausen is said to have been activated on 17.04.1940, Rundstedt was probably activated right at the War's start and Leeb possibly with his promotion to full Generaloberst in November 1939. Volkmann was "leased" from the Luftwaffe and probably earmarked to return to that branch.

Mysteriously, I can't find Metz in the 1941 DAL, while Rundstedt, Leeb and Cochenhausen are still there (plus Kleist who was upgraded from z.V. to active "für die Kriegsdauer" since 1940, Volkmann having died). So it seems he returned to z.V., but why?
There are times in history when staying neutral means taking sides.

A small addition to his promotions:
Oberleutnant X6x
Hauptmann C21c

Sources: Dienstalterlisten der preussischen Armee

From the autobiography of Gustav von Plehwe, Generalmajor a.D., reflecting on his Kriegsakademie times:

In the various Stellenbesetzung for 1940, Metz is shown as Generalmajor zV; Generalleutnant, and General der Infanterie zV.

He was promoted General der Infanterie at the same time as all the other Generalleutnant zV that were Befehlshaber of the Höhere Kommandos z.b.V.

All were promoted effective 01.12.1940 so maybe he reverted to zV at the time of this promotion.

Regards

John
