So, how many Ritterkreuzträger are there now?, because I understand that the total amount of 7318 winners is no good, don´t I?
Do I miss anyone in the list that is in this moment cancelled?
And another very important issue, Is there anyone who won the award after the 8 May 1945 and is not cancelled and why?

I hope someone could help me with my doubts.
Best regards and keep it up.

Jordi

Welcome aboard in our forum, but
nobody has the time to answer your questions in detail. I recommend to buy the book of Veit Scherzer, see at

Hello Dieter.
Is it written in German this book?
I say it because I don´t understand German.
Let me ask you one question if I may, If I understood correctly the awards after 8 May 1945 are no legal, didn´t I?, so I can erase every Ritterkreuzträger from the list after 8 May 1945.
Best regards.

Hello Jordi

You will find below the website of Veit Scherzer. Click on the left side to the "Lieferbare Bücher" button. You will access to the presentation page of this book dealing with KC holders (Ritterkreuzträger 1939-1945). You will have the opportunity to see a sample page on the right side. As you will see, it is verry easy to understand, even for a non German speaker since this book is a full list of KC holders (like the Fellgiebel's was also).

http://www.wehrmachtdivisionen.de/

I also suggest to use the search button on this site with terms "Scherzer" "facto jure" "OdR" to have infortmation about this interesting and complicated matter.

To respond to your question, this is the old debate "De facto, Yes, De Jure, No" : that means, many soldiers were awarded the KC in the very last days of the war (or even after the German surrender) by their commanders. To make short a story long, the problem is that most of these comanders (Div. Kdr, Korps Kdr, or Armee Kdr) has not the legal authority to bestow alone the KC. The bestowal should has been approved by the HPA/LPA/MPA (The Army/Air Force/Navy Personel Office) during the wartime period.
So, these soldier effectively received the RK (De Facto, Yes/Ja) but this award was legally/juridically not possible (De Jure, No/Nein).
See this link for the matter about awards made after 08/05/45 : http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... pitulation

The Scherzer book lists all KC holders who were officially bestowed the RK (several ones are consequently no longer registered, the same thing with Eichenlaubträger : until the 843rd, all are officially acknowldeged. Between the 844th and the 882nd, only 13 are acknowledged).

Hope this helps
Regards
Denis
