Your help is requested to identify the generals standing next to Hitler at this 1939 parade in Warsaw.

Thanks in advance,

Hi !
I've always wondered... The nearest one is the excellent Generaloberst Johannes Blaskowitz, then in the background the unmistakable Generaloberst Wilhelm Keitel. The ones near the Führer are probably very important but it's difficult to say with their helmets. May be Kleist in the middle ? Hard to say....

Heinz Guderian and Kurt von Briesen

Postby Michael Miller on 26 Nov 2002 06:14

Helmeted man on left is Guderian, but man next to him is not von Brauchitsch (who wore his Golden Party Badge in all photos I've seen). It appears to be Generalleutnant (later General der Infanterie) Kurt von Briesen (* 3.05.1883 in Anklam / Pommern; + 20.11.1941 as Kom.Gen. LII.Armee-Korps near Derijewka, Russia), who lost an arm in the fighting for Kutno and was decorated with the Ritterkreuz on 27. Oct. 1939 for his command of 30.Inf.Div.

Best wishes,

Michael,
Von Briesen was in hospital for quite some time due to that injury, I don't think he would have been fit so soon to appear in the victory parade. He was injured on the 10th September and didnt get back to service until the 1st July 1940. He never had any luck actuallu just over a year later he was KIA. I've read sources saying its v. Brauchitsh and others saying Jodl and even more saying Reichenau, confusing stuff...

Thanks to all for your input, I guess we'll never know for certain about the man in the middle.

The thing that points me to the v. Brauchitsch answer is the nose. It's very defined, Romanesque almost, Leeb had a similar nose structure but he appears to be carrying too much weight to be Leeb, who was a rather thin man.

The officer at the bottom left hand corner is said to be Rommel.

Hi!

JC: It`s not Guderian (sure)
Next to Keitel is Gen. v. Weichs and behind Blaskowitz Gen. Reichenau.
Please also look to page 36, Stauffenberg II.
