give me one try to move on

At this time Genmaj Bassenge was in captivity in Trent Park.
His mission was to urge the Kdr of the Channel Islands, Generalleutnant Rudolf Graf von Schmettow to surrender. Was rejected.
Bassenge obviously had some first plans for a "Nationalkomittee West" like the one in the East after Stalingrad.

A guess: is story in this new book: Söhnke Neitzel, "Abgehört" - Deutsche Generäle in britischer Kriegsgefangenschaft 1942-1945", Propyläen Verlag 2005 ?

regards, luchs

From which commanding General cames this citation :

"Dafür hänge ich in Berlin am nächsten Laternenpfahl, oder ich bekomme das Eichenlaub"

Hint : Operation Walpurgisnacht

Hint 2 : Neither the first nor the second followed .

Oxhöfter Kämpe with the remnants of the 7. PD under Oberst Christern (with KC)
(but he was not a "Kommandierender General", this was Mortimer von Kessel as KG VII. PzK., but he had the oakleaves)

Yes Dieter , Kessel was ment ( but I must admit I don't know how authentic this citations really is , but it is a good metaphor for the situation of 2.Armee at this time and what risk von Saucken and von Kessel took as they denied the orders of Hitler to evacuate the Kämpe with this about 35000-40000 soldiers and thousands of refugees ) . Your turn , dear Dieter .

A very rare (political) decoration was the Wartheland Gau Badge ("Gau-Ehrenzeichen Wartheland").
Only a single officer of the Wehrmacht was a holder of this badge (not SA or SS !).
He is very well known and highly decorated.

Nobody knows ..... :(
It was Kapitän zur See Wolfgang Lüth, KC with oakleaves, swords and diamonds !!

Next round:
I' m searching for the name of the Higher commander (a Generalmajor) who still ordered on 20.04.1945 a review on the occassion of Führer' s birthday (Parade zu Führers Geburtstag 1945).
Who and where ?

Am 20.04.1945, Hitlers Geburtstag, läst Generalmajor G.Benthack in Chania eine grosse Parade abhalten. Vorbeimarsch aller Waffengattungen.

Regards
Jean.
