Hi,

I need biography infos of Theodor Oberlander, the leader of Sonderverband Bergmann.
Was he became a West German ambassador in Indonesia after war? And how about his serving in Roland Battalion?
I wish there are people who could help me.

Thanks

This is in german: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodor_Oberl%C3%A4nder
It´s not mentioned in this biography that he was ambassador.
He was a doctor of agriculture and political science. He took part in 1923 putsch and was member of party and SA. He wrote books about german and jewish culture in the east and about "Lebensraum". So he was one of these theorists and pseudo scientists of "Lebensraum" in the east and expulsion of the jews, but it´s not sure whether he really wanted them all killed or "only" expelled. He also was member of Wehrmacht and Sonderverband. Later in war he lost power and influence because he was against german occupation politics.
After war he made a political career. He was one of the founders of BHE, a party that claimed to be movement of expelled germans but in fact also was a reservoir for old Nazis. From 1953 - 61 and 63 - 65 he was member of german Bundestag and from 1953 - 1960 minister for expelled people (that ment for germans from the east) in Adenauer´s gouvernement. 1956 he became member of Adenauer´s CDU. (BHE disintegrated).
When his past came out a lot of people protested against him. The GDR started a campaign with fake documents, too. So it was not clear what was true. But in fact, he was nazi and involved in pogrom, and such a man couldn´t be minister in a democratic state. So he resigned and disapeared from public but always claimed to be not guilty.
