Wilhelm von Gottberg recieved the DKiG (German Cross in Gold) on 20.08.1943 as a Hauptmann in II./Pz.Rgt. "GD".

I have his DKiG. On a return plate an engraving of number of field mail 32620, but this number of a stab of the first battalion.

I have a Hauptmann Freiherr von Gottberg as Kdr. of Pz.Jg.Abt. 69 for two weeks in Oktober 1944, he succeeded Hauptmann Leohard Hilgers. The same man?

Hm, according to this site Wilhelm von Gottberg was last Kdr. of PR 22/21. PzDiv. in April 1945...sorrowly Scherzer has only the Kdre. of PR 21 till February 1945...

Spaeter lists in Vol.2 of his monumental history of PzKps GD (page 192) that on 5th July the Kdr. of II./PzRgt. GD, Major Graf Saurma, was heavily wounded and died on the way backwards, so Hptm. von Gottberg took of the Führung of the II.Abt.

In June 1944 von Gottberg is listed as Kdr. I./PR 22 in Kortenhaus' excellent history of 21. Panzerdivision.
