And to make the matter even confusing, there's an image in Wikipedia-Bundesarchive with the title : Nordafrika.- PK-Tonberichter (Radioreporter) Gunther Halm beim Interview mit Generalfeldmarschall Erwin Rommel (rechts); Mitte: Fritz Bayerlein; nach dem 22. Juni 1942; PK "Afrika"...

@Alif,
Yes, hm, this would be a coincidence indeed, if there was a Kriegsberichter with that name, too, with "Propagandakompanie Afrika". It seems hard to find info about the PK personnel, also especially about this radio interview after Tobruk. Maybe it is a mistake and/or mixture of info that found its way to the caption (Rommel/Tobruk was in June 42 , Halm was in July 42).

@Peter,
Yes, there is a resenblence with Stotten. Merely to see if he wears the "8" of his Pz.Rgt. on the shoulder board.
Thanks for the pics, great series ! There is a great one of Boeckmann, heavy artillery (not seen very much of him) :D

Sorry Bernd and Peter, but I think he is not Stotten, based on the form of lips and face, plus the first person in the photo (Mis-identified as Günther Halm) does not use Ritterkreuz in his neck, a strange thing because Stotten already get his Ritterkreuz since before the departure to Africa ( 4 July 1940)...

My opinion, this man is Leutnant Hellmut von Leipzig, based on facial similarity and the same source (http://www.afrikakorps.org)... But It's only my opinion...

I know it's one of famous pictures of Rommel in Africa, and I'm really curious about the Ritterkreuzträger behind Rommel. Who is he?

Source as above

Thanks in advance! :)

23 October 1942, the day of the Allied offensive at El-Alamein. Major Georg Briel (left), commanding Panzergrenadierregiment 200 of the 90th Africa Division, in a battered helmet and M1940 tropical field tunic with unofficial M1935 officers' continental collar-patches and a German Cross medal talks to fellow officers. His right hand is bandaged. Note the M1940 tropical anklets worn by middle officer

Hello: I am so happy to see information online about Cord Tietjen. He was my Uncle and Godfather, and I am just sorry that he is no longer with us to see this. Some years ago I did a search online to find anything I could about his years in Afrika Corps, and had printed out a fair bit to send him shortly before his death. Any links or information you could point me too would be very much appreciated!

Hi Sonya

Here's some photos of your uncle from Eric Queen's Red Shines the Sun.

Thank you very much! Where was this picture taken?
Cord had an interesting connection to Canada where my Father emmigrated in the 1950's... The prisoner of war camp was in the prairies - Alberta I think, but I'll check - where he learned excellent English and found his interest in agriculture. Apparently the POWs were quite free and part of the community, so even under the circumstances he had fond memories of Canada.

Now that I know about the book, I will pick up a copy.

Hi

I think Eric Queen took it in Germany in the 80s.The University of California top was given to Dr Tietjen by Mr Queen.Your uncle studied there in 1958.

The film of the attack on the Moerdijk Bridge in 1940 (Sprung in der feind) below also shows your uncle reenacting his role as seen in the photos here:
