Major Walter Nowotny
Hi folks,
Does anybody have any color picture or Luftwaffe ace Major Walter Nowotny Diamonds winner, 258 victories, KIA on 08.11.1944)?
If so could it be poted here? I´m just asking because I never saw a color picture of this great ace.
Thanks in advance,
Douglas.

Im trying to find more infos about this award, but without success.

Hi Adalberto,
you will find information here:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ehrenring_der_Stadt_Wien
also Ernst Kaltenbrunner was a recipient (No longer to find in the official list too) see
http://www.lot-tissimo.com/de/i/2554966 ... nd_weitere
A pic of a contemporary ring with swastika (owner Ernst Kaltenbrunner) is to be seen here:

I think it's maybe interesting, but unfortunately I don't remember a source... Walter Nowotny and Oberbürgmeister der Stadt Wien Professor Johann Blaschke.

Re: a good biography of Walter Nowotny?
Hi,
as in Austria the church was the official office for personnel data until 31.12.1938 we have to look at the church books, in this case of the city of Gmünd next to his birth place Böhmzeil. He was born in Böhmzeil Nr. 185, Lower Austria, a village which was divided after WW1 and northern and western parts being given to the new Czech Republic.
His full name is Walter Karl.
The last name is given as Novotny, however in further church books of his relatives it is visible that the name Novotny was later on revised and the correct last name is Nowotny.
https://data.matricula-online.eu/de/oes ... 16/?pg=246
His fathers and mothers family both obviously came from Höritz in Bohemia.
According to the last census of Austria-Hungary (1910) Böhmzeil had 2.683 inhabitants, of which 2.362 Germans, 286 Czech, 8 Others and 27 from abroad countries. Höritz (Horice) in Bohemia had 1.158 inhabitants, all of them being Germans.
