Majewski indeed. Thank you.

Re gen with Wachenfeld, I too would agree it was Held. A bit disappointed that where a Kaiserliche "Ehrenkreuz" would be underneath his EK1 could not provide any additional info. Held served pretty much with the Bavarians and I have never seen the bavarian Militärverdienstoffizierkreuz being worn by Wehrmacht generals -- so perhaps merely a KVK 1. Klasse oS :(

Alex pointed out that the owner of the konvolut could be ObstLt Sorg, Ausbildungsleiter Landsberg which was of course close to Augsburg where Held's Div. Nr. 147 was. I think that is very likely.

Def Held, messed up on this id, so it would likely be Augsburg after March 1940 when Held took command. Ref the officers behind Held, the officer in great coat second from the right looks a bit like Oberst Karl Pflaum who also wears glasses as the officer in the photo but Pflaum was in Command of 19 Inf Regt based Munich in 1940.

Hi,

Page 66 - genfind168yk7.jpg - Hard nut which confuses us for 5 years, we have to attack and hack him! I make the first hit of our ID hammer. And my version GL Eduard Aldrian, a possible connection with 29 I.D. - early Barbarossa Arko 124/VII A.K./ Guderian's Panzergruppe (but the problem with the rank). :x

Base:

1. Characteristic slanted eyelids
2. Similar small ears
3. Wide and fleshy nose
4. Sad mouth
5. Monocle
6. EK I 1939 without spange and Wound badge in black.
7. 100 % match of ribbon bars (in my view)
8. Bergmütze. Prewar Aldrian was commander of mountain unit and he could keep the tradition and the authority to wear it.

Best wishes
Ruslan

Hi Ruslan,

I came to the same, unfortunately wrong, conclusion a few years ago and had for many years extracted the likeness of the features of the two persons and assumed the mystery man in the 29 (mot) div konvolut was Aldrian.
Until I saw this of Aldrian as Kmdr of 373 (Kroat) Tigar Div.

Here you go, JC, old friend. Can't figure out who the Chef was and whom he was chef to. He looked a bit strange and I must have seen him somewhere before

Thank you Elwyn, I wasn't aware that the elusive v.Weber had been ID'd. Those ears, or should I say that ear, is fairly distinctive!

Always my Best.............JC

Elwtn,
I´m al ittle bit confused. Are you saying that the ID of ALDRIAN that Ruslan made is not correct?
In my opinion, the main features on both pictures match 100 %. The picture of ALDRIAN that you posted has not got a great quality but one may concur that it is ALDRIAN.
Cheers.

That's right. What Ruslan posted (from 29 mot Div konvolut) is not Aldrian. The owner of that pic first showed me what he pruchased many years ago. I made the same wrong conclusion, filed it away for a number of years but had to change my mind. I fooled Alex into believing me too. 8-) (For a moment I thought what Ruslan posted was Stoart HrGr Mitte Raapke which would fit in nicely with 29 Mot Div -- if you base that on the ubiquitous Raapke pic -- but we all now know, or at least I do, that Raapke was very short and quite stout and it couldn't be him either) Bear in mind German generals can be vain and use their best portrait as the modern day CDV like a Kaiserlich general would. What I posted had Aldrian written on the back and it came from a Tigar Div konvolut. That's the problem with having just one Biblio Verlag pic (and mind you, this is a good one), having stared at it for years and without realizing it, let it distort your objectivity in identification.
