Any second opinion on WM general whose uniform was not even 6 months old at this point? (New WM insignia adopted since 01.05.34. The picture was taken in late October RW WK V or WM WK XII.

Hi, Elwyn!

Your version with Steppuhn looks like good in my opinion. Only the connection is missing. Any chance that he was guest of honor?

Best wishes
Ruslan

Hi Ruslan,

Thanks for your supportive comment. But I guess in view of the overcoat with a very small lapel, Dave Danner is right that he was Reinicke

Dear friend,

I am still not sure that is Reinicke. Compare the distance between the cap eagle and the upper edge. The distance between the cord and cockade and the shape of the cord. Also pay attention to the right side of the collar, Reinicke's dented and raised, Mr.X collar perfectly smooth.

Best wishes

Hi,
The two colour pics on page 219
The Luftwaffe general (most likely GenMj Kurt Steudemann) with the blue cap is Friedrich Heilingbrunner.

But there is also the unknow general with the white cap.

Hi Ruslan,

You are right with the discrepancy of the distance the national eagle is being away from the crest of the peaked cap. But what bothered me more was the shape of the nose and Reinicke with much more pronounced cheeks. Back to the drawing board a bit ... :? But the old RW WK V relation wouldn't be far off as everyone else could be traced back to some unit there (except v Gallwitz)

Hello, ttvon!

Can't be Heilingbrunner, he was a typical "Heimat" general, I don't see any good reasons for his finding in Rumänien?

I made the mistake many years ago when I jumped the gun and ID'ed a few colour pics as that of Steudemann but these were subsequently correctly ID'ed as Heilingbrunner. The mistake was mainly due to the only low grade pic we have of Steudemann from Biblio Verlag. There is absolutely no reason to believe they even remotely looked the same.

The Bundesarchiv colour pics became tricky as we were presented with side views of a bespectacled general. Ruslan is right. Steudenmann stood a much better chance of being in the Black Sea in 07.41 as 2nd Inspk of Flak than Heilingbrunner who was a Kmdr of Luftgau in Heimat.

But I found these in my possession which I did not pay that much attention to. It was clearly the same occasion -- captions are not always 100% trustworthy but it lends heavy support to the man being Steudemann. He had a much thinner face than Heilingbrunner. Unfortunately, he was not in the second pic or was the man on the left with his back facing us.

The LW gen wearing the white peaked cap had a big nose. I always thought there was a shot of him being Kettembeil as Koloft AOK 17. Again the Biblio pic was pathetic.

Good day!

Very nice find, Elwyn! Unfortunately I have too little material on Kettembeil and hard to say that either.. :x

Another riddle for you, guys! Who is this scrawny Generalleutnant (FLAK) in Russia 1942? Gerhard Hoffmann perhaps?

Ref-mio 2 General 4th Pz Group taken Allenstein.
What about GM Paul Gerhardt as WEI Allenstein he held this position from Aug 1936-Oct-Nov 1939 and from and from Aug 1940.
Unit histories has a small pic of him,but not very clear.
Ref Wodrig etc I put down Gen von Thadden no reply,I take it as definite.
Regards to all our great contributors.

Hi Alex

Höfl's interaction with Wodrig was probably limited to 01.41 - 07.41. 206 ID, whilst in HrGr Nord's path in Ostpreußen before or shortly after Barbarossa, actually fought with AOK 9 in HrGr Mitte startign 07.41. Then Höfl won his RK in 12.41. His next command, 39. ID, put him in Vlssingen, far away from Russia.

This pic could only be Höfl visiting stellv I Korps after he went verabschiedet in 43. So yes, most likely v. Thadden. Well done.

Hi Ruslan,

Indeed you have a nice pic of Gerhard Hoffmann of 15. Flak-Div. in HrGr Süd before DKiG and promotion to Gen. d. Flak in 12.42.

Ref-General 4 Pz Group Gerhardt that I proposed,I would say a good possibility,though I have seen
a grainy pic that Elwyn sent me,makes him not so chubby as the General in the Forum.
