General Kalmukoff

Post by teg » 21 Sep 2008, 21:55

I am seeking any information about the biography German General Kurt Kalmukoff, the CO of 31 ID, who participated in operations on Eastern front in 1941. Was he of Russian origin (I can conclude it from its surname)? Was he killed in action? If he was killed – is there any detailed information about the circumstances of his death?

Hello teg :D; here goes a little to start............

On the night of the 12/13 Aug the regiment was relieved and crossed the Dniepr at Nowyj Bychoff towards the east (less its I./ IR 82, which remained for another 24 hours in the old defensive sector). On Aug 13 1941, the 31 ID’s Commander, General Major Kalmukoff was killed together with his Adjutant Major von Barnekow (mine explosion); the IR 17’s Commander, Oberst Berthold took over the Division’s command.

Was General Kalmukoff killed by anti-infantry mine or mortar mine?

For future reference, Kalmukoff was killed near "Swonez" (Звонец) (not "Swoncz"), which apparently is located approximately at 53°14'3.33"N 30°25'33.72"E, present-day Belarus.

btw, according to Volksbund, the place of birth is Marienwerder rather than Graudenz—the latter given by Keilig & Bradley (u.a.), however I cannot actually say who's right here.

Hello to all :D; I guess General Kalmukoff and his Adjutant were killed when they rode on a land mine (antitank mine) with the PKW. Cheers. Raúl M 8-).

Hello,

Does anyone have some more precise infos on his WWI assignments than this please : "Zug- und Kompanieführer im RIR 5 und IR 128" ...

By the way, he changed is name somewhere between may 1927 and may 1928 from Kalmukow to Kalmukoff.

Regards,
Rudolf
