The picture below was taken at a parade held in Prague in honour of the appointment of Reinhard Heydrich as Reichsprotektor. Identities, please?

Man on left appears to be Karl Hermann Frank. The man in the middle, he's familiar but his name fails me at the moment....

Best

Why is the Wehrmacht officer wearing SS insignia on his chest?

That SS insignia tells us that he was a member of the SS (it was worn on uniforms without SS runes on the collar, ex the Waffen-SS units made up mainly of non-Germans).

Magnificent picture (as always, VJK)!

Polizei General at far right is SS-Gruf.u.Gen.Lt.d.Pol. Otto von Oelhafen (confirmed by viewing photos- including another left-side profile shot- from his SS personnel file at NARA).

At far left is indeed "Kah-Hah" (Karl-Hermann Frank).

Will do my best to ID SS-Oberf. at center- can probably do so, relying largely on visible awards. If I don't come up with his name, I'll go insane- so please stand by.

Best wishes,
~ Mike / ABR

Is the Waffen-SS Oberführer, SS-Oberführer d.R. Julian Scherner, Waffen-SS garrison commander in Prague?

EXCELLENT, Glenn!

Yes, it surely is. Photo in Yerger's "Allgemeine-SS" isn't too clear, but this officer resembles him. And wears the Blutorden, which Scherner held (as well as EK II and Verwundetenabzeichen).

Thank you!

Best,

Talking about Karl Hermann Frank, is it true that he had a missing eye? Does anyone have a frontal picture of him? On the ones I have he's always sidelong... :?

Glass Eye

Post by Glenn2438 » 24 Apr 2003, 20:30

According to Nikolaus von Preradovich in "Österreichs höhere SS-Führer", he was totally blind in his right eye following an accident in his childhood and indeed wore a glass eye.

Another clue

Another clue to the identity of the General ranker was, apart from the SS runes below the pocket the Polizei badghe on the sleeve - just thought I would point it out! :D

Kind Regards
