General Günther Blumentritt
I am attempting to do detailed research on General Günther Blumentritt who served as Chief of Staff for Field Marshall von Rundsedt and also, for a brief time, was on Rommel’s staff. He was also implicated in the plot to kill Hilter but was personally absolved of such by Hilter himself. At the end of WW II, he was in command of a “rag-tag” collection of German troops known as “Army-Blumentritt”. I believe he surrendered to British troops. He is also depicted in the “Longest Day” movie as not being able to get in touch with Hilter on D-Day.
After the war, he was POW at a place called “Island Farms”, in Wales (see great web site!) where he gave many interviews to noted British WW II historians. He is published in various compilations books. He was set to testify at the various trials, and may have even been tried himself (unsure of this) but did not testify. He was turned over to the Americans where he again wrote many manuscripts.
Thru the “Island Farms” website, several years ago, I made contact with his grandson, who I believe was a history professor in Munich. Unfortunately, I lost contact with him.
As mentioned earlier, I would like to collect as much information as possible on this unique German general who saw so much history, as well as participating in much of it, as to WW II. I would be very grateful for any and all info regarding him, his history, his surviving family and any other matters of information.
In advance, many thanks.

Here's a signed photo of Blumentritt. If you are interested in his activities in Paris during the July 20, 1944 coup, I would suggest "Conspiracy Among Generals" by Schramm.

Another nice portrait of general Blumentritt. Didn't know about the missing part of his ear.

Re: General Günther Blumentritt
Blumentritt was an extremely active participant in the US Foreign Military Series of documents. Many were written by him.

Re: General Günther Blumentritt
Does anybody know when Blumentritt returned to duty as Chef HGr D (OB West) after he had recovered from the injuries suffered in his train crash in 1943?

Re: General Günther Blumentritt
According to the Axis History bio page Blumentritt returned to duty on 26.06.1943.askropp wrote:Does anybody know when Blumentritt returned to duty as Chef HGr D (OB West) after he had recovered from the injuries suffered in his train crash in 1943?
26.06.1943 - 10.06.1944 Special Mission with 7th Army, France and then with Army Group South, Eastern Front
10.06.1944 - 10.09.1944 Chief of the General Staff, Army Group D (OB West)
Kind regards

Re: General Günther Blumentritt
I know that page, but this sounds as if Blumentritt held only special assignments after his recovery and implies that he did not act as Chef HGr D / OB West between January 1943 and June 1944, which is definitely not true. Blumentritt is mentioned as Chef HGr D / OB West and also signed documents as such in the latter part of 1943 and through the first half of 1944. According to Biblio's "Die Ritterkreuzträger" series, the date of 10 June seems to come from a OB West Stellenbesetzung issued on that day.

Re: General Günther Blumentritt
Does anybody know what his injuries from the train crash were, because as it seems his ear was already damaged in september 42 (and even earlier I think). So I presume that 's perhaps a WW1 injury?
