Hi,
Does anybody has a picture of Hauptmann Ernst Paulus ( Rittermaister at the Panzer-school Fallingbostel), son of Fieldmarchall Paulus ( commander of german VI Armee ) ? Ernst had a twin brother, named Friederich ( KIA in the battle of Anzio- Italy ). Any pictures of him ? Thanks,

Silviu

Greetings to both cousin Silviu and the community as a whole. In respect to your inquiry of Tuesday - March 04, 2003 - 1:42pm, yours truly has no information as such to offer you. However, your inquiry does appear to add fuel to a minor controversy brewing over on the adjacent WHAT IF section of the forum. When the time avails itself, please peruse the thread entitled as GENERAL PAULUS. The two entries of relevant interest are dated Tuesday - February 25, 2003 - 6:32am AND Tuesday - February 25, 2003 - 9:20am. There appears to be a bit of confusion over the correct name of the PAULUS clan. In short, is the name simply Paulus or is it von Paulus? Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter. In anycase, I would like to bid you a wonderful day up in the GREAT WHITE NORTH!

Best Regards,
Uncle Bob :)

Von Paulus' s son Ernst

Dear friends,

Correct is Paulus and not von Paulus ( my mistake ! )
The reason why I posted the message about Ernst is an older
question of my father about the fate of this fine officer.
In 1943, my father ( romanian cavalry officer ) was sent
to Panzer School Fallingbostel bei Hannover uber Celle to
be trained in the use of panzers.
One of his instructors was Ernst Paulus ( also a cavalry
officer ). They talked many times during the course and in
the officers Casino, over beer. Ernst Paulus enjoyed the
company of the romanian cavalry officers, because they shared
common background.
Here is the story...
His father,Friederich Paulus, was born in 1890 ( in Breitenau )
as the son of a school administrator. He joined the imperial
army and served as leutenant in Regiment 111 from Rastatt,
the Baden Dukat. In the same unit served two young
romanian officers, Efrem and Constantin Rosetti-Solesti,
sons of the romanian Consul in the Dukat. They had a
recomandation letter from the Queen of Romania, Elisabeta,
who was Principess of Wied, before her marriage with
Carol of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen.
During a trip to the Black Forrest organized for the young
officers of the regiment, Paulus met Constance-Elena,
sister of the two young romanian officers. They married in
1912 and had three children: Olga ( born in 1914 who later
married the Baron von Kutzachenbach ) and two twins
( Frederich and Ernst, born in 1918 ). Both twin brothers
became cavalry officers and were known between the wars
in arenas in horse obstacle driving contests.
Baron von Kutzachenbach was an officer in the 6th Army
( commanded by Paulus ) and was captured at Stalingrad.
Nobody from home knew about his fate. Friederich was
killed in the battle for Anzio.
Constance-Elena,never to see her husband again, died in
1949 in Baden-Baden. Paulus returned from soviet captivity
in 1953 and died shortly after that ( 1957 ) in Dresden
( Eastern Germany ).
My father fought with the 7th Rosiori ( cavalry ) Regiment
Iasi ( Yassy ) and was wounded in the left arm on April 4th
1944, not far from Tirgu-Frumos by a russian mortar round.
Decorated with the Iron Cross 2nd Class and Romanian Star
( Steaua Romaniei- with the title of knight- the very same
order that the Romanian Government awarded George W. Bush,
on november 23rd 2002 in Bucharest )joined the fight
again a few months later ( after his release from the military hospital ),
this time against the germans and when the war ended
his regiment was based in the Czech Republic. He never knew
what fate Ernst Paulus had, but kept nice memories of him and
shared them with his family and friends.
Thanks for the nice comments about my posting and I hope that
there are not too many mistakes in it.
