You don´t have the back of the original? I´m pretty good in reading the old scripts.

There is a certain resemblance to Generalleutnant Hans-Heinrich Sixt von Arnim. It might help if the date and location of the pic were known. I attach a pic of Sixt von Arnim for comparison of the likeness and signature.

The nose is different, I doubt it's the same man.

I found five generals with von names beginning F or T:

Thoma, General of Panzer Troops Wilhelm Knight von (1891-1948):
Tippelskirch, General of Infantry Kurt von (1891-1957):
Falkenhorst, Colonel-General Nikolaus von (1885-1968):
Flotow, Major-General Erich von (1870-1940):
Frantzius, Major-General Botho von (1898-1942):

The first bears the greatest resemblence:

or pehaps a much older Frantzius:

But neither really convince me.

Couldn't find a pic of Flotow.

Hello!

Are you sure it is a german general? The shoulderstraps look different and the cap also not very "german". Although I can´t see if there is a general collar under the word "Kriegserinnerungen".

Could it be a captured enemy general?

It looks like a certain Hasso von Manteuffel to me. (Below)

An older version

Image

Hasso Von Manteuffel was a general who distinguished himself on the Eastern Front at the head of the 7th Panzer Division. In December 1944 he was given command of the 5th Panzer Division (December 1944 - February 1945) with the instruction to push to Brussels (Battle of the Bulge). Lacking sufficient supplies and faced with a determined allied counter offensive he appealed in vain to Hitler for help. While Hitler contemplated the situation Von Manteuffel recommended a retreat to the Rhine. Later he commanded the 3rd Panzer army on the Eastern front, Hitler's last hope.

He was held at Island Farm as a prisoner for some time. On his return to Germany after the war he became a politician, serving as a delegate to the Bundestag (Federal Diet) in Bonn from 1953 to 1957.

My guess- a Magyar

Judging by the cap and the circular badge thereon, I'd say he's Hungarian (or at least some guy wearing a Hungarian Army cap). If I'm correct in this assessment, the badge bears the horizontally arranged red/white/green colors of the Hungarian flag within a gold ring.

Best wishes,

I'm Not Alone! :D
I agree It's definately a Hungarian Cap and the uniform looks Hungarian, not German. I see the slight resemblence to Manteuffel but he's too old.

Gareth.

Maybe the writing on the back doesn't refer to the guy in the centre of the pic - perhaps the "General v. F... or T...." means the other guy in the back seat?

I think it means

"Ein General der Finnen auf Besuch"

A general from Finland at a visit.

If the picture was taken in Finland (high North of Russia) the general would have belonged to the North Group of Finland -->

I suggest to check the

Cdr. IIIrd (SF) Corps
Cdr. 3rd (SF) Division
Cdr. 6th (SF) Division.

These units were under control of AOK Norwegen and AOK Lappland for a pretty long time and therefore the guy in question could be one of these commanders.

It could also be that the picture was taken in the Ladogasee-Onegasee-Area and the general belonged to the South Group of Finland visiting parts of Army Group North. --> No further idea.

BTW: I just became One-Star-General (100 posts). Yeaaahhhha ...
