there was a Major Rudolf Nevermann who was the final commander of Grenadier-Ersatz-und Ausbildungs-Bataillon 6 in March/April 1945. With his battalion he was deployed to the area south of Osnabrück where they arrived on Mar 30th.Rossano wrote: Any assignements (from begin./mid 43 on only !) for Maj. (1.12.43) Nevermann Rudolf ?
The blocking force was deployed along the Teutoburger Wald ridge and consisted of:
Grenadier-Ersatz-und Ausbildungs-Bataillon 6 (4 companies)
Grenadier-Ersatz-und Ausbildungs-Bataillon 46 (1 company)
Landesschützen-Bataillon 665[? or 666 perhaps?] (1 company)
Grenadier-Ersatz-und Ausbildungs-Regiment 30 (1 infantry gun company, 1 mortar company)
It was initially commanded by an Oberst Kessler from GrErs.- und Ausb. Rgt. 30 but he promptly got lost when trying to obtain instructions from his superiors at Division Nr. 490. So Nevermann took over command of the Kampfgruppe instead that had to defend a 12 km sector south-west of Tecklenburg. During the fighting in Tecklenburg Major Nevermann was taken POW by British forces on April 3rd.
Other tidbits on Major Nevermann:
- He joined Reichswehr on April 1st, 1930. Obviously a former NCO
- Before coming to Gren.-Ers.-u. Ausb.-Btl. 6 he'd suffered a severe leg injury and could just walk with a limp. Nevermann must have been recuperating for some time in 1944/45 so was out of business.
