Greetings all,
In 1941/42, Maj.d.R. Fritz Garke was IIa of the 21.Pz.Div. in North Africa.
Does anyone have any other information on him in World War II? Especially, can anyone confirm if he was the Fritz Garke who received the German Cross in Silver in 1945 as IIa of the LVII.Panzerkorps?
Here is what I have:
*30.12.18__ in Herzberg am Harz, Kreis Osterode
08.05.15 Lt.d.R. mit Pat. v. 22.03.15
um 1938 OLt.d.R
um 1940 Hptm.d.R.
1941/42 DIvs.Adj. 21.Pz.Div.
Thanks,
Garke, Fritz

Re: Garke, Fritz
Hi Dave
The "Generalskartei" also contain information on some more junior officers who held IIa posts, Fritz Garke is one such officer.

John

Re: Garke, Fritz
Thanks for your help.
That certainly fills a lot of gaps!
John, over the weekend I found the same Karteikarte for Generals/General Staff Officers in the US National Archives, but the images of the microfilm were hard to read on the crappy microfilm readers they have. So many thanks for your copies.
Rossano, I think 1890 is correct. Otherwise he would have been 15 when he entered the Army and 16 when he was commissioned.
I found two other Karteikarten as well. One was in the infantry officer files on roll 917 and one was the Panzergrenadier officer card that has some of Rossano's information. Note the different dates for the various assignments from those on the GSO card. The Panzergrenadier officer card has 1890. The only assignment information it has is:
Regarding awards, besides the DKiS and the ones on the card, he also had the Kgl. Hausorden v. Hohenzollern, Ritterkreuz mit Schwertern, and the Fürstl. Schwarzburgisches Ehrenkreuz 3.Klasse mit Schwertern. He was wounded three times in World War I, twice severely, so also the Verwundetenabzeichen in mattweiß. The KVK1X doesn't appear anywhere. I wonder if it was awarded at the same time as the DKiS?
Regards,
Dave

In the files of the 21.Panzer-Division, he is shown with a Zugang of 21.8.41 and a transfer out of the division on 1.12.42. So that is yet more different dates.- 18.1.45 mit dem 1.2.45 in die Fhr.Res. OKH (III) versetzt unter gleichzeitiger Kommandierung zum 21. Rgt.Fhr.Lehrgang.
- 25.1.45 die Kdrg. zum 21. Rgt.Fhr.Lehrgang ist nicht wirksam geworden.
