Generalfeldmarschall Werner von Blomberg Promotion Dates

#1

Post by luftk » 12 Feb 2015, 11:27

Gentlemen,

I am hoping someone could kindly confirm the promotion dates for Generalfeldmarschall Werner von Blomberg.

I have been reading about him and have come across three conflicting dates for his promotion to Oberstleutnant (01 Oct 18/20 Dec 1920) :? Which is the correct date?

Also, are there dates recorded for the ranks of Fahnenjunker (1894?), Fähnrich (1896?) etc?

Many thanks
Pierce

Santiago

Thank you for your reply and help. It is appreciated.

May I ask what source you are using? Is it by chance the 1924 Ranklist? I have the 1925 but by then von Blomberg was already promoted to Oberst.

Many thanks

Is there any record of when von Blomberg was promoted to the ranks of Fahnenjunker and Fähnrich?

Thanks

According to "Die Generale des Heeres", Blomberg started his service as Leutnant (then Sekondelieutenant) in 1897 and never held a lower rank.

Confirmed by his biography (Kirstin A. Schäfer: Werner von Blomberg: Hitlers erster Feldmarschall. Eine Biographie)

Apparenly US officials paid him their first visit on 30.05.1945 in his house in Bad Wiessee. He was placed under arrest on 04.06.1945 and spent the following years in prisons in Nürnberg and Oberursel im Taunus. On 16.02.1946 he was transferred to the hospital, where on 20.02.1946 he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer (cancer of the large intestine).

Thank you for confirming. This is the date I have but I wondered why, if dismissed on 27.01.1938, it took over a week later, with Blomberg out of the country, for him to retire from the Army. Was it an administrative process perhaps? I had read he was followed to Capri to have some papers signed pertaining to his resignation.

Are these seniority dates accurate:

31.08.1933: Generaloberst (with seniority from 30.08.1933)?
20.04.1936: Generalfeldmarschall (with seniority from 01.04.1936)?

No

von Blomberg's RDA as Generalfeldmarschall was 20.04.1936 according to the DAL for 07.10.1936 and 12.10.1937

John
