31.12.1938 Oberst mit Wirkung vom 01.01.1939 und RDA vom 01.01.1939 (1) - Dienstliche Bekanntgabe am 18.01.1939
00.00.1940 neues RDA vom 01.07.1937 (1a) erhalten
14.06.1941 Generalmajor mit Wirkung vom 01.07.1941 und RDA vom 01.07.1941 (1) - The DAL says nothing about a backdating to 01.04.
10.09.1943 Generalleutnant (nachträglich) mit RDA vom 01.12.1941 - should have been the (13)

I don't yet have the KTB 15. PzDiv, but the KTB DAK says he took over as Führer 15. PzDiv on 14.06.1941. As his promotion became effective on 01.07., this should be the day he changed from Führer to Kommandeur.

It was neither 16.06.1941 nor 01.07.1941.

mit Wirkung vom 25.07.1941 Generalmajor Frhr von Esebeck, Kdr 15. Pz.Div., z FR versetzt
mit Wirkung vom 25.07.1941 Generalmajor Neumann-Silkow mdFb 15. Pz.Div., z Kdr 15 Pz Div ernannt
Nr.4050/41 g.Ag P1/Ref.9 dated 14 August 1941

also
Pz.Div beauftragt.

Which is the reason why he was not appointed Kommandeur on his promotion to Generalmajor

So the actual change from Fhr to Kdr was on 14.08. (although Neumann-Silkow probably learned of this at least one or two days later).

As I said, the actual dates of command according to KTB DAK were:
19.04.1941 - 16.05.1941 Frhr. von Esebeck
16.05.1941 - 14.06.1941 von Herff
14.06.1941 - 25.08.1941 Neumann-Silkow
25.08.1941 - 19.09.1941 Müller-Gebhard
21.09.1941 - 06.12.1941 Neumann-Silkow

I would love to read the division's KTB in order to ascertain who commanded 19.09. to 21.09.

Just got some more information. The change of status for Neumann-Silkow from mdFb to Kommandeur was 25.07.1941 - the mit Wirkung vom date rather than the date of the publication of the appointments list (which is most often the case when I can find a more complete paper trail).

FS 25.07.1941 to DAK
2) Mit sofortiger Wirkung wird ernannt der Generalmajor Neumann-Silkow mdFb 15 Pz Div, zum Kommandeur dieser Panzerdivision.

With regard to von Esebeck's appointment as Kdr 15.Pz.Div, how should we interpret this?
Esebeck (64).jpg
Incidentally, the HPA Clerk entered to date of the issue of the PV in the date column of von Esebeck's Dienstlaufbahn, resulting in him apparently being tasked mdFb 15.Pz.Div two days after he had been appointed Kdr!
von Esebeck 01.jpg
The Dienstlaufbahn are a minefield and I am convinced are the source of some of the confusion around dates.

Pace my German friends on this forum but what happened to the German reputation for having good processes - I thought it was us Brits that were shambolic :)

28.05.1942-07.07.1942 Oberst Eduard Crasemann (mstFb)
07.07.1942-18.07.1942 Oberst Erwin Menny (mstFb)

25.08.1942-31.08.1942 Generalmajor Gustav von Vaerst
31.08.1942-01.09.1942 Oberst Eduard Waltenberger (mstFb)
01.09.1942-18.09.1942 Generalmajor Heinz von Randow (mstFb)
18.09.1942-11.11.1942 Generalmajor Gustav von Vaerst
11.11.1942-20.11.1942 Oberst Eduard Crasemann (mstFb)
20.11.1942-09.05.1943 Oberst (21.01.1943 Generalmajor) Willibald Borowietz (bis 21.01.1943 mFb)

The KTB of 15. PzDiv gives some additional insight, although the original copy was destroyed in November 1941. General Prittwitz was probably the very first member of his division to arrive in Libya, and he was already dead before the rest of his staff could follow. Technically, the command should have directly passed to Esebeck, the brigade commander and senior Oberst, but as Herff was the first to arrive, he took over the advance elements of the division for several days. After Esebeck's wounding, the KTB says that Menny, the new brigade commander, took over, just as one would assume. Then we have a surprising discrepancy. The divisional KTB says that Neumann-Silkow arrived on 8 June, while the KTB DAK says it was on 14 June, a full week later! Both KTBs add that Oberst Herff now returned to his regiment, indicating that he and not Menny seems to have been in command now. If so, I don't know when and why the change was made (this is one of the missing passages of the KTB, for which only a short summary was inserted). The reconstructed KTB is dated 10.08.1942 and signed by Randow, so we know he was commanding at that point, but still not when he took over. Apparently, there isn't even a summary for the period between May and August 1942. The return of Vaerst is also missing, but should be found in R-669, the one volume of the KTB missing at John Calvin. But we now have a confirmation for the final (?) handover between Crasemann and Borowietz.

Hello John
I just saw Your post above
I (Scherzer as well) have v.Esebeck from 13.4.41 (15.PD)
Who lead the div. 10.4 - 13.4 ? Maybe the Ia or a senior officer ?
Is there anything about these matters in the DIv.KTB ?
Thanks, Rossano

10.11.1938 - 01.11.1939 Kommandeur des Aufklärungs-Regiments 7 (motorisiert) , Bad Kissingen (2.leichte Division)

any help appreciated. Thanks

P.S.: again 15.PD
Menny signed a doc dated 7.9.41 as Div.Fü. i.V.
(maybe he signed later an already before dated doc. ?)

Dieter gave above "9.12.41" as death date, but in the DAK-KTB it´s given "8.12."

It is given as "24 hours 8 December" which is the same as "0 hours 9 December", isn't it?

Thanks Askropp
In Your replies I often note a sarcasm veil, like in this case
Why should it be "24 hours 8 december" ? If the text mentions 8 dec. it means 8 to me and not 9.
Anyway, the exact text reads : ".....wurde schwer verwundet u. ins Lazarett überführt, wo am 8.12 a .d. F. s. Verw. den Heldentod stirbt"
