"Schon bald nach der Kapitulation der Deutschen Wehrmacht waren in Wien und in den von Westmächten besetzten Bundesländern zum Teil bewaffnete Österreichische Freiwilligenverbände aufgetreten, auf die die provisorische Staatsregierung kaum Einfluß nehmen konnte. Im britischen Sektor bestand außerdem die sogenannte »Aldrian-Brigade« beziehungsweise »Österreichische Brigade« unter Generalleutnant Eduard Aldrian, die aus den Österreichern des ehemaligen deutschen LXVIII Armeekorps, das sich nach dem 8. Mai 1945 den Briten ergeben hatte, aufgestellt worden war. Sie sollte in der Land- und Forstwirtschaft, beim Straßenbau und bei der Demobilisierung der Wehrmacht eingesetzt werden und war schließlich in neun Regimenter mit rund 13000 Österreichern und 6500 Ausländern gegliedert. Die Deutschen waren im »Korps Noeldechen« zusammengefaßt worden, wurden aber eher wie Kriegsgefangene behandelt."
