Need confirmation about Gen.Lt. Berthold Stumm

#1

Post by Dieter Zinke » 28 Jul 2016, 11:22

I found a pic [point of origin unknown] on my hard disk showing reportedly Gen.Lt. Berthold Stumm with Gauleiter Florian.

The problem: If the man in the middle is really Berthold Stumm the award on his right breast appears to be the Gallipoli-Star ("Eiserner Halbmond") rather than the Deutsches Kreuz Berthold was bestowed with at that time.

Who is the General at right?
Who cuts the Gordian knot? :)

I believe the general in the middle is Gen.Lt. Wilhelm ADAM.
Wether the one on the right side is Gen.Lt. Berthold STUMM. I ignore it. I haven´t seen any picture of him.
I remember seen a group of pictures taken in Düseldorf with Gauleiter FLORIAN and several generals Heer and Luftwaffe and this was one of them.
Cheers.

Berthold Stumm † 30.09.1977

Emmy Stumm, geb. Schmitz † 26.06.1985

They are both buried in the Johannisfriedhof (Alter Teil) of Bielefeld-Gadderbaum (http://grabsteine.genealogy.net/tomb.ph ... b=&lang=de). Most probably, but not yet confirmed, also died in Bielefeld.

Thanks, this explains the existence of Stumm's son. I think the death date may belong to Stumm's mother and someone typed it into the wrong line on the card.

For those who have not accessed the Bundesarchiv file, here are the rest of his awards:

17.10.1914 1914 Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse
01.05.1915 1914 Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse
03.07.1915 Königlich Sächsischer Albrechts-Orden, Ritterkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern
08.08.1918 Verwundetenabzeichen in schwarz
30.12.1934 Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer
02.10.1936 Wehrmacht (Heer) Dienstauszeichnung 4. bis 1. Klasse

He was a Prussian officer, but his M.G.-Detachment was attached to Saxon Landwehr-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 133, which explains the Saxon award.

File photo and signature, and another version of the photo from the Generalskartei:
