Hi gentlemen!

I´m interested in

Kpt. z. See Harald Netzbandt
Cdr. Battleship Gneisenau 1939-1940
Chief of Staff Fleet Command 1940-1941

Netzbandt died on May 27th, 1941 aboard Battleship Bismarck, together with Adm. Günter Lütjens and Kpt. z. See Ernst Lindemann. Can anybody provide data on and a pic of him?

Regards,
Stauffenberg II

Great shot Hans, thanks!

I think Netzbandt is the man visibly wearing the EK I and Spange zum EK I, isn´t he.

As to Netzbandt: I think so, the short guy.

Forgot to say he was awarded the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold (posthumously) on 30.4.1942.

Cheers,

Hans

Great work, I forgot to ask for the awards. Nice, that you included it.

Strange: It took a long time (11 months) to recognize that he was worth being awarded the DKiG for action in a time when this award wasn´t actually set up.

Please grant the traditional follow up. Do you have the RDA of Kpt. z. See Ernst Lindemann and Kpt. z. See Hans Langsdorff? Was Lindemann awarded the DKiG posthumously, too?

Cheers,

Looking for info on;
Chief of Staff (Chef des Stabes): Kapitän zur See Harald Netzband who was on the Bismarck when it sank and didn't survive. Having trouble finding anything beyond those most basic details, wondered if anyone had any further info.

cheers,

Hello MontysCaravan!

Harald Netzbandt recieved the DKiG (German Cross in Gold) on 30.04.1942 as a Kapitän z.S. with the OKM/Flottenkommando. Source: Patzwall & Scherzer (2001).

He either recieved the award posthumously one year after the sinking or, just a thought, he recieved it (still posthumously) on the same date but in 1941, just some three days after the sinking of the Bismarck...

Thanks for those. I was genuinely surprised to find so little information on such a high ranking officer. I had the honour of meeting his grandson, who told me some interesting stories. I thought it'd be interesting to find out more, but there's little on the web, and few of my books are Naval.

cheers,
