Göbels Karteikarte says that he died on 27.02.1945. Is there any primary source for 2 March and Esslingen, as given by Bradley in GdH (and possibly Keilig)? I don't think it was easy to get from Ostpreußen to Schwaben in February 1945.Can anybody confirm the correct date of death for GM Karl Göbel? Both 27.02.1945 and 02.03.1945 are mentioned.

Re: Dates of death
Dear all,
I have different dates of death for the following persons. Could anybody maybe clarify?
Gen. d. Inf. Kinzel (Eberhard): 11.05.1945, 23.05.1945 or 24.06.1945
Gen. d. Inf. v. Sodenstern (Georg): 20.07.1955 or 22.07.1955
Thanks for any help you may be able to render.
Jürgen

Re: Dates of death
I think there can be no doubt that Kinzel committed suicide to prevent his capture when the Dönitz government and the remnants of the OKW were arrested on 23 May (just as Friedeburg did).
On Sodenstern, I have 20 July, but Jake may have the definitive proof.

Leo Kuno Georg von Sodenstern died around 4 a.m. on 22.07.1955 in a hospital in Frankfurt am Main-Bockenheim of complications arising from a probable pulmonary embolism.Stauffenberg II wrote: Gen. d. Inf. v. Sodenstern (Georg): 20.07.1955 or 22.07.1955

Re: Dates of death
I stand corrected. I was wrong, but I may be forgiven because a gazillion of sources (including Keilig, Bradley and Wikipedia) gives the wrong date. As the excellent article "The suicide of General Kinzel" in After the Battle No. 128 shows, Kinzel and his mistress Erika von Aschoff committed suicide on 25 June 1945 near Idstedt / Holstein. As Kinzel wrote, they could not bear the thought of becoming separated, as his arrest by the Allied authorities was scheduled for the next day.I think there can be no doubt that Kinzel committed suicide to prevent his capture when the Dönitz government and the remnants of the OKW were arrested on 23 May (just as Friedeburg did).
