Kocjo recently posted this pic in the Documents, Postcards sub-forum:
Does anybody know the General. He looks very familiar. Furthermore I think he could wear an arm badge on the right arm, i. e. he might be a Gebirgsjäger or Jäger General. And: What is he wearing around his neck?
Thank´s for help,
Stauffenberg II

Hmm,
I don´t think he is.
There are only a few Generals of the Geb. Jäger/Jäger troops I don´t know. It´s Friedrich Breith and Ernst Schlemmer, both received the DKiG. There are some more (Kress, Kübler J., Utz), but none of them received the DKiG.
Or it´s somebody I know but I don´t recognize. He looks soooo familiar.
Regards

Unknown
The same general appears in two photographs in Mark Yerger's "Allgemeine-SS on pages 74 and 75. The caption states he is General der Gebirgstruppen Franz Böhme. He is pictured alongside SS-Obergruppenführer Erwin Rösener in 1945.
However:
He does not particularly look like Böhme
He appears to only have one rank star = Generalleutnant
Böhme was in Norway in 1945 as Wehrmacht Commander and GOC 20th Mountain Army
He is wearing the Edelweiß badge on his right arm and that is a Knight's Cross.
I don't think it is Degen.
Regards
Glenn

Do you have photos on Böhme and Breith? I think I have seen a photo on Breith (if there was only one Breith) and as far as I remember he didn't look like the man above.
I still bet for Degen. What do we know on him? I think he was Generalmajor while commanding 2.Gebirgs-Division in Northern Finland/Norway since 1.10.1943 at least until turn 1944/45.
Does anyone know when and where this photo was taken? This general probably has two medals around his neck just like Degen has in the photo I sent. Another one could be Finnish?

as regards Böhme see:
http://www.bridgend-powcamp.fsnet.co.uk ... %F6hme.htm
as regards Breith (F.):
I don´t have a pic of Gen. Lt. Friedrich Breith. But he can be excluded because he didn´t receive the Ritterkreuz.
as regards Degen, Keilig states:
2 Mtn.Div 1.11.43.-6.2.45 (severly wounded). He received both the DKG and the Ritterkreuz. He wore the arm badge. Gen. Lt.: 01.08.1944

I agree, it is neither Böhme nor von Hengl, and Degen is a real stretch. Attached is Friedrich Breith and it's not him either (BTW was he related to Hermann?). Are you sure that is an RK at his throat? In the photo of Degen, what is the decoration under his RK?
