#1

Post by Mait » 31 Aug 2003, 14:24

Hello.

When the americans shot down the plane that carried admiral Yamamoto they also shot down the other G4M that carried admiral Matome Ugaki.

Could anybody answer these questions:

1. What were the injuries of admiral Ugaki?
2. For how long was he hospitalized?
3. When did he return to actrive duty in Navy?

Best Regards,

Mait.

Hi,
1) He had two compound and a simple fracture in both of his arm.
3) Ignoring nominal appointment to general staffs while in hospital, he became the commander of 1st squadron in Feb. 25, 1944.

Hello.

Thanks for the answer. But I am not very good with english medical terminology - what do you mean by "two compound"?

Do I understan You correctly that he was hospitalized until february 1944?

Best Regards,

Mait.

'Compound' fracture refer to severe fracture so that bones appear out of skin. He suffered severe fractures in left wrist and right arm, and a less severe fracture in left arm. I don't know when he came out of the hospital. He went back to fleet in February 1944.

Today at library I checked the diary of Ugaki 'Senso-Roku' published in 1968. Wounded place was as Windward quoted. His diary did not mention the fracture in the left arm. There were much more light wound on face, head, back and so on.
He went out of the navy hospital to his home in Nov.30 1943 but still he was in rest. In Feb.22 1944 he went to the Navy office and was told that he would be assigned as a squadron commander. Official order was dated as Feb 25. He arrived at Kure naval base in Feb 29 (Yes, it was 1944).
