Thanks to Helly Angel for the image, this picture shows Göring wearing the Wehrmacht Heer uniform but he always wears the Luftwaffe or SA tunic as he was not part of the Heer. Anyone know why he wears the heer uniform here?

DarExc -- I don't believe the Luftwaffe was an independent branch of the German armed forces, with their own uniforms, when the photograph was taken. At that time, the Luftwaffe was part of the German Army.

This photograph was taken around 1934 before there was an independant Luftwaffe but also Göring was made an Army (Heer) general at this time and he had every right to wear the uniform of an Army General believe it or not.

Sorry, but no, the Luftwaffe was secretely built under cover of the DLV and when it went public in 1935 the blue-grey DLV uniform was merely adapted with some changes in the insignia and accoutrements and carried over as the new Luftwaffe's uniform. (The only Luftwaffe members wearing Heer uniforms or a mix of Heer/Luftwaffe items during a short transitional period were those soldiers transferred from the Heer to the new Luftwaffe)

The real reason for Hermann Göring wearing the uniform of a Heer General is the fact that he was awarded the characterized rank (charakterisierter Dienstgrad) of General der Infanterie by Paul von Hindenburg on 31 August 1933. In 1933 and 1934, Göring thus sometimes wore the uniform of an Army General.
(Furthermore, when he was the Ministerpräsident of Prussia and thus also the head of the Prussian Police, he sometimes wore the uniform of a Police General as well.)

I know pics of Göring with many different uniforms in wear, but never heard of him wearing a police uniform. Are there any pictures of him in police uniform???

I don't have scanner, but, for example, a photograph of Göring and Daluege in Police Generals' uniforms appears in John R. Angolia & Adolf Schlicht's work on the uniforms and traditions of the Luftwaffe. (German edition's title: Die Deutsche Wehrmacht. Uniformierung und Ausrüstung 1933 - 1945. Band 3: Die Luftwaffe)

Unlike Göring's usual dapper appearance, he appears to be in a somewhat disheveled condition, what with the wrinkles in his uniform.

I wonder if his valet was sent to a labor camp for this faux pas. :lol:

Hi!

Is that Eugen Ritter von Schobert standing behind Hitler in the centre of the photo?

Well, the photo of this thread for DarExc is from 1934.

And this photo is from 1935, in this photo I think the man who is behind Hitler in 1934 photo is the same at the right, is his name Schobert? And who is he? Which is his history?

All the best,

von Schobert, Eugen Ritter (1883-1941) [Generaloberst] – WWI service; commander, VII Army Corps 1 Sept 1939-25 Oct 1940; commander, 11th Army 25 Oct 1940-12 Sept 1941 [Knights Cross 1940] {killed 12 Sept 1941 when his aircraft landed in a minefield south of Nikolayev, Ukraine (Quiet Flows the Rhine pps. 59, 108; ABR-Croisier-H; Nazi Conspiracy & Aggression VI, pps. 624-634 [Document 3739-PS]).}

VJK,

Excellent question RE Ritter von Schobert. Unless anyone has better information, I, too think this is Ritter von Schobert. Note what appears to be the Knight's Cross of the Bavarian Military Max Joseph Order looped through his buttonhole. Also, it appears he might be wearing a WWI Pilot's Badge, however I can’t honestly say if it really is this badge (plus it’s on the wrong side). While this badge is not listed under Ritter von Schobert's awards in the 1926 and 1930 Army Ranglisten, I have a copy of his very slim Royal Bavarian Army service record which indicates he trained as a military pilot from June-December 1911.

Regards,
Shawn
