Identification of Stalingrad POW generals

Postby freiherr on 15 Nov 2003 16:56

From the same site where Paulus's picture was found:

(1) Were the the generals in 1.jpeg as suggested?
From left to right:
Max Pffeffer, 4 Corp
Ulrich Vassoll, ARKO 153
von Seydlitz Kurzbach, 51 Corp
Arthur Schmidt, CoS, 6 AOK
Werner Sanne, 100 JG Div
Carl Rodenberg, 76 INF Div

(2) Who were they in 3.jpeg? Alexander Elder von Dabiels on the left?

Cheers
Freiherr

Freiherr!

I´m a little bit confused. I have the left part (the left guy) of pic No. 3 with the caption H.-G. Leyser. I think I got it via TRF. :?

But: Hans included this pic with the name "Ernst v. Leyser". Moreover the Stalingrad page shows another pic of H. G. Leyser (the 2nd pic of Hans again with Ernst v. Leyser). :?

So I don´t know. I don´t think the left guy is Daniels.

Regards,
Stauffenberg II

Hi Stauffenberg II,

I am confused too. I didn't make the connection. The two pictures of Ernst Ulrich Hans von Leyser that Hans Houterman has on his site sure look like they are of the same person. But since it was Hans Georg Leyser, Fhr, 29 Div who surrendered, it must be the latter, not the former.

But to add to the confusion, the bigger pic of "Ernst" seems to show a DKiG. Ersnt von Leyser had both the RK and the DKiG. Hans Georg Leyser only had the RK!

Hans Georg Leyser only had the RK!

Hans-Georg also received DKG (09.12.1941).

Hi Stauffenberg II,

Thanks for the DKiG info. Not that it helps matters, das-ritterkreuz.de has the attached identified as Ernst von Leyser. Looks like a skinnier guy than Hans Georg Leyser.

Sorry for being OT but:

Isn't he the same man who ordered a movement of troop in order to force Paulus to order an general stampede out of the Kessel? Or is this a different man?

Hallo forum,

to my surprise I find not before this morning the little pic, showing the Luftwaffensanitätsinspecteur. Elwyn had posted this pic for me. I will correct this mistake. Sorry!

Hi Oberstab,

Creepy! I don't know how my post turned into your Luftwaffe sani picture. Here's a repost. What are your thoughts?
