12 Recipients of the Golden Oakleaves

#1

Post by Al Carter » 27 Jun 2002, 19:52

If you had to choose who would be your recipients of the Golden Oakleaves. Hitler had planned to give this to the twelve most disserving men of the war contingent on a German win. Here is mine in no particular order.

1. Hans-Ulrich Rudel
2. Ferdinand Schörner, defense of the Kurland?
3. Hasso von Manteuffel
4. Erich Hartmann, most air victories
5. Michael Wittmann, most AVF’s destroyed
6. Erich von Manstein
7. Hans Hube
8. Albert Keßelring
9.
10.
11.
12.

This is all that I could come up with at this time. I know nothing of the Kriegsmarine so I am sure some there would make it. Maybe some higher ups of the Luftwaffe also.

It depends. The hypothesis of a German victory, but after December 29th, 1944(date instituted), since the victory was no longer possible?

I would suggest for the following numbers(in the hypothesis of a German victory in early 1945, which was, of course, impossible :P ):

9. Karl Dönitz (who should have replaced Raeder early in the war)
10. Josef "Sepp" Dietrich
11. Walter Schellenberg
12.

I still can't figure who No. 12 was supposed to be...

Must say that Otto Kretschmer deserves one of those 12. Maybe Wolfgang Lüth too, as he sunk more ships than Kretscher, only with a little less tonnage....

Hi!

AFAIK the Golden Oakleaves should have been only awarded to 12 "bewährte Einzelkämpfer", i. e. only well proven Rambos (lone fighters). Therefore I think you can cancel your General Officers.

IMO Guderian deserved to be awarded the Grand Cross of the Iron Cross. Actually it was him who revolutionized Army tactics with his Armored Forces system, allowing the successful strategies of WWII.

Dietrich 8O
I don´t think that he would have earned a single award from any country if he had not been SS General.

There's been no mention of Walter Model yet, Germany's greatest defensive tactician.

Hello! :)
I'm a bit confused guys, some of the people you speak of e.g. Model or Kesselrig showed their best in defensive combat yet this thread assumed that Germany won.

Deserving people are:

Rudel
Manstein
Skorzeny
Hartmann
Wittman
Galland
Student
Hausser/Steiner
Posthumous to Langsdorff
Guderian
Dornitz
Kretschmer
Kumm
Heinrichi
Peiper

And I think that two would probable go to Hitler's right and left hand mans, Himmler and Goring. I don't know how deserving they would be, but they would probable get one.
