Still searching for date/place of death. The date should be included in the list with the commanders of Grenz-Infanterie-Regiment 127 (Zweibrücken) in Wegner's Stellenbesetzung Band 2, p. 516 (probably there, but I don't have the book). May I ask if someone can look it up for me?

According to Deutsches Soldatenjahrbuch 1979, Schaefer's corresponding address was in Edingen am Neckar (probably this was published before he died).

According to Wegner / Zweng, Schaefer died on 27.09.1978.

Re Gen Schaefer's last two division commands, I have his command of 252. ID terminating on 10.01.1943 (Madeja)
and that of 332. ID on 05.06.1943 (Keilig and Mehner).
I have a note that the division artillery commander was m.d.F.b. from 05.06.1943 to probably 03.07.1943 when Gen. Helmuth Pfeifer took command.
Does anyone have the name of the division's artillery commander at that time?

Best regards,
Bill in cleveland

To clarify my question, can anyone provide the name of 332. ID Artillery commander in summer 1943, probably acting mFb as division commander?

Well, I answered this one myself by more research. Lexikon says Obst Trowitz was mFb from 5-6-43- no mention of his being division artillery commander first though.

Fortunately the Div KTB is available and shows the following:
KTB 332 Inf Div 01.jpg
KTB 332 Inf Div 01.jpg (30.6 KiB) Viewed 1731 times
KTB 332 Inf Div 02.jpg
KTB 332 Inf Div 02.jpg (28.59 KiB) Viewed 1731 times
Oberst Pfeiffer was wounded in the morning of 03.08.1943 and left the Div HQ at 09:00 and the KTB then shows:
KTB 332 Inf Div 03.jpg
KTB 332 Inf Div 03.jpg (11.6 KiB) Viewed 1731 times
Command of the Division is not clear in the KTB because Generalleutnant Schmidt was captured on 07.08.1943!

Next there is:
KTB 332 Inf Div 04.jpg
KTB 332 Inf Div 04.jpg (28.37 KiB) Viewed 1731 times
and finally:
KTB 332 Inf Div 05.jpg
KTB 332 Inf Div 05.jpg (16.83 KiB) Viewed 1730 times
Regards

John

PS Others may be able to extract more details from the KTB.

So if I have this right, it went like this:
Obst Adolf Trowitz 05.06.1943
Obst Helmuth Pfeifer 06.07.1943
GenLt (first name unk) Schmidt 03.08.1943
Obst Trowitz again 09.08.1943
became Div Grp under 255 ID 11.08.1943

I was unable to find which General Schmidt commanded- I have no record of any Gen Schmidt taken prisoner in August 1943.
Can anyone help with that?

Thanks so much for your work with the division KTB, John. Those sources are beyond my means.

Best,
Bill in Cleveland

Oberst Timm Kdr AR 332 05.06.1943 until Pfeiffer arrived.

Sorry Generalleutnant was Gustav Schmidt Kdr 19. Pz.Div., who was killed, not captured.

Hello John and Bill
Why Timm (John) or Trowitz (Bill) from "5.6." ? The KTB above reads "5.7. (not 5.6.) : Schaefer verw."
So, that Schaefer is reported until 5.6. must be a mistake, he commanded until 5.7. (from KTB above)
Rgds., Rossano
P.S.: is there any mention in the KTB about who were back then the Ib, Ic, and IIa of the 332. ID ?
