Wasn't Groppe arrested by the Gestapo in relation to the plot to kill Hitler, 20 July 1944? I recall he was a piously protestant man and disliked Hitler's regime to the bone.
Anyone who can confirm my memory?

Hello,
Indeed he was piously protestant man and disliked Hitler's regime to the bone......Since he was released out of Wehrmacht (February 1940) he was all time observed by Gestapo as "potential oppositionist". Arrested 21.07.1944 (after assassination to Hitler) and charged of defeatism and enervation Wehrmacht's morale....I got copy history of "Schwarze General" in German language...and I can share it on this forum but somebody could translate it to English (I don't feel so strongly as German - English translator)...anybody decler translation?
Best Regards
Greyfinn

He was piously protestant man.
I beg your pardon, Sir, but you are insulting General Groppe. Groppe was a stout-hearted Roman-Catholic.
There are times in history when staying neutral means taking sides.
