134th inf Division. General Hans Schlemmer

#1

Post by Lone Pine » 14 Mar 2004, 09:00

Does anyone have any information regarding the 134th inf Div and in particular General Hans Schlemmer. This Div was destroyed at Minsk in June 44 and Schlemmer was replaced as commander a few months before. Was he still with the division when it was pulverised and if so, what was his fate?.
Thanks, Bruce.

Keilig says:-

Hans Schlemmer, Dipl. Ing. Generalmajor 10Mar42 (Patent 1Apr42), Generalleutnant 1Jan43, General der Gebirgstruppen 9Nov44.

134ID 17Dec41 to 1Jun44: Kurs. f. Komm. Gen. 1Jun44 whatever that means, LXXXV Korps 2Jul44 to 3May45.

German Cross in Gold, Knights Cross with Oakleaves.

Hi Roger,

FYI, "Kurs. f. Komm. Gen. " means he was sent on a training course for corps commanders, just prior to his appointment to command LXXXV Korps. This was fairly normal practice when Division commanders were scheduled to move up to the next level.

Regards,

AJK

Bruce, the sources seem to be a bit in conflict over Schlemmer. Perhaps Werner Haupt's book (which I don't have, unfortunately) can clear it up.

In any case, Terry and Cole, GERMAN ARMY 1939-1945 AN ORDER OF BATTLE, v.VIII, indicates that Oberst Rudolf Bader succeeded Schlemmer as GoC 134.ID in February, 1944. They indicate also that he (Schlemmer) later commanded LXXV AK. I checked the Stellenbesetzungen for 10 June 1944 in DIE GEHEIMEN TAGESBERICHTE v. 10 and it shows that Gen.d.Inf.Dostler was in command of LXXV AK on that date. However, the Stellenbesetzungen for 10 December 1944 (DIE GEHEIMEN TAGESBERICHTE v.11) does show Gen.d.Geb.Tr.Schlemmer to be in command of LXXV AK on that date.

All the best.

Tom
