He was a Kapitän zur See and Adjudant des Oberbefehlshabers der Marine Erich Raeder.

After the war he became a Flottillenadmiral and Kommandeur der Flottenbasis.

Is there anybody who has a short bio and a picture of this man.

thanks in advance,

Mulisch

* 29.10.1906 in Berlin-Schöneberg
† 12.12.1975

KptzS: 01.04.1945

released from P.O.W. status: 23.11.1947

Presumably, it was his son who received the DKiG on 17.05.1943 as an Oberleutnant in the Luftwaffe.

Thank you Ken McCanliss and VJK for this info.

I have still two questions:

1. Was he held P.O.W. the Russians, Amercians or Britisch;
2. Has there been a trial against him after his release as a P.O.W.

Thanks in advance again,

Mulisch

U-181 was undergoing repairs at Singapore when Germany surrendered, and was taken over by the IJN to become submarine I-501; surrendered to the British at Singapore 15 Aug 1945 and was scuttled there 16 Feb 1946.

You're welcome, Mulisch.

You may find this link interesting; it gives a Tabular Record of Movement for the I-501 (former U-181):

Hi again,

here some interesting supplements:

In April 1931 Leutnant zur See Kurt Freiwald was also a member of the Court of Honour against Reinhard Heydrich chaired by Vizeadmiral Gottfried Hansen (then his commander of the “Schleswig-Holstein“). The other members: his former instructor, the Kapitänleutnant of that time (the later Vizeadmiral) Gustav Kleikamp and also Kapitänleutnant Karl-Jesko von Puttkamer (at least Konteradmiral).

Hi Oberstab,

I thank you for all the given information. Exspecially for the part that he was a memeber of the Court of Honour against Reinhard Heydrich. I didn't knew that at all.

Could you tell me if there is somewhere stated that he was indeed the adjudant of Erich Raeder (i have no prove for it yet).

Greetings,

Mulisch
